I'm going to stick with a policy of very cautious optimism.

kiint - 2008-11-14

ditto...
i have my reservations from this trailer, but we will see.

SecretJunk - 2008-11-14

This is essentially Sparta

yoyo1 - 2008-11-15

shitty quality, watch the HD version.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-11-14

I think the movie will be good (although I'm practically gagging on all the slo-mo), but the music and editing in this trailer was terrible, and the YouTube bubble ads are extremely annoying.

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-11-14

You posted this comment right before I did.

...I like Philip Glass.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-11-14

I like Philip Glass too, and this same song has been used in trailers to great effect before (Fog of War rules). But this time it just didn't fit with what was showing.

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-11-14

Fog of War does rule. And my initial instinct to this Philip Glass co-opting was "Oh god, they've found a new fucking Requiem for a Dream."

But, still better than Billy "I lived in a Warehouse" Corgan.

revdrew - 2008-11-14

Pruit Igoe is way overused and didn't fit this, the Muse song was ok, and I preferred the Pumpkins.

Nice trailer other then that.

StanleyPain - 2008-11-15

The song that opens the trailer isn't Pruit Igoe, it's Prophecies, though both are part of Koyaanisqatsi.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-11-15

i swear to god Zak Snyder has the worst musical taste in Hollywood.

dawn of the dead had Disturbed

300 have Nine Inch Nails

this has Smashing Pumpkins, My Chemical Romance and Muse

he is one Tool song away from being the cinematic equivalent of a 7th graders backpack

....but this still looks pretty

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-11-15

I like Muse but I would have to agree. The director is incompetent and this will make a fortune.

Hooper_X - 2008-11-15

Yeah BUT: Snyder fought the studio to get Johnny Cash (and Richard Cheese) into Dawn. I will give him credit for that shit, because everyone who's ever seen that version knows the bit with the Johnny Cash is easily the best part of the entire film (and the part with the Richard Cheese is up there).

TeenerTot - 2008-11-15

Pardon me while I glue on my strokable music beard....

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-11-14

And yet, they keep the "Visionary Director" moniker.

+5000 stars for removing Billy Corgan's yowling voice (and successfully buying credibility with Philip Glass' Fog of War soundtrack mixed with Muse, rocking)

Hooker - 2008-11-14

Isn't it Koyaanisqatsi?

Camonk - 2008-11-14

Fuck you for stealing my comment.

I guess I'll say that Rorschach sounds pretty good.

Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2008-11-14

...

It's the first sign that they've fucked with things.

Hooker - 2008-11-14

This would be really cool if it weren't Watchmen. To all the people that think this is going to be a great adaptation, is the tone of the trailers really the tone you got from reading the comics?

Honest Abe - 2008-11-14

people who get upset when their comic book movie is not like the comic book are the worst people in the world. start learning to separate the source material from the adaptation. there's reasons for changing things, and crying about changes is the gayest thing you can ever do.

this looks like it'll be good on its own, and the extra added mirth i receive from the wailing of nerds only adds to my enjoyment

paranex - 2008-11-14

Sort of. Been a long time since I read it.

What are they supposed to do though? Put the Comedian shooting a pregnant Vietnamese woman in the trailer? They're trying to SELL the movie, not prove to die-hard fans that it's a frame-by-frame adaptation.

Hooker - 2008-11-14

There's a difference between a good movie and a good adaptation. I specifically asked that question of people that think it's going to be a great adaptation, not a great movie.

Meerkat - 2008-11-14

Laurie seems too be trying too hard to be sexy. I mean the way she was walking. I always imagined Laurie as being sexy without trying to be sexy. Kind of like that chick at the bar that you buy a drink and when you open the door for her you notice that she walks like a lumberjack. But it's Okay because she's still sexy even though her ass is kind of flat.

Jeff Fries - 2008-11-15

I am getting a strange Masterpiece Theater vibe

heyitslozeau - 2008-11-15

many trailers don't match the feel of the movie. They're trying to sell it to everyone.

Hooker - 2008-11-15

Well, at what multiple points in the comic did you get a sense of slow-motion and dramatic posing?

Camonk - 2009-02-06

A movie that was an analysis and deconstruction of COMIC BOOK TROPES would be boring and terrible. But one that looks at MOVIE superheroes could be interesting, and much the same way that the comic had Nite Owl using a crazy car and whipping tons of gadgets off his belt, the movie has him kick flipping guys and explosions. It makes sense. But Hooker's a whiny nerd so I mean you know what to expect.

socialist_hentai - 2008-11-14

Zack Snyder is just a pompous duchebag, i hope the movie will rock despite him, but i have a nagging little feeling that they're baiting the nerds with trailers full of scenes from the comic and everything inbetween those scenes is going to suck...

Remember V for Vendetta and all the other moore adaptations and how they made me cry in my pillow!

theSnake - 2008-11-14

Predictions:

The movie will faithfully recreate the comic, except the scenes transitions will seem oddly disjointed then all of a sudden you will realize this is because there are no Tales from the Black Freighter to break things up. Then you will see the ending and be like WTF that wasn't the way it ended in the comic! THIS WAS SHIT!!!!

Or you will be like I DIDNT READ THE COMIC BUT THAT FUCKING ROCKED ASS!!!!

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-11-14

Who watches the Watchers? Me. March 6th, 2009. And a twenty year old question is finally answered.

Screwtape - 2008-11-14

Crossing my fingers that the actual movie is good, but this trailer deserves an ACTING! tag.

sunisevil - 2008-11-14

I think they got Rorschach's voice perfectly but Doctor Manhattan sounds whinier than he looks.

thirteen3seven - 2008-11-14

That's the thing. I expected Dr. Manhattan to speak with the authority of God In Heaven. At least, at that point in the storyline. Still cautiously optimistic.

fourthguy - 2008-11-14

Nerd Fun Fact: The screenplay for this was written by the same guy who does the voice of Solid Snake.

Godard's Drinking Problem - 2008-11-14

Dear god.

voodoo_pork - 2008-11-15

I don't know if that's awesome or not.

SpookyElectric - 2008-11-14

i haven't read the comic. i liked the trailer. the muse song may be an influencing factor though

Samisyosam - 2008-11-14

If it's a well-told story, it doesn't matter how different it is from the comic. The only problem is that most stories based off comic books aren't well-told because they have the blockbuster mentality.

Who can say whether this is any good. I wouldn't put money on it, but it might be an exception to the industry's track record.

robotkarateman - 2008-11-14

I'm looking forward to this, but this latest trailer gives me pause. Are they really referring to themselves as The Watchmen? It's been a bit since I read the book, but weren't they The Minutemen in the story and Watchmen was just a nickname given to all superheroes by the ignorant masses?

kingarthur - 2008-11-14

Yeah, the "Minutemen/ failed Crimebusters" in the book now seem to be "The Watchmen" in the film. Face it, this movie will absolutely kick ass, but it will still be a Cliff's Notes version of the story. And with no space squid.

However, if you wanted a complete adaptation, you're looking at a six hour film, folks.

robotkarateman - 2008-11-14

That's exactly what Gilliam said.

Senator_Unger - 2008-11-15

Not nearly enough Ozzymandias. That being said, "We can save this world."

Hooper_X - 2008-11-15

Overall, I'm sold. Looks fun. Will it be the DEEP AND BRILLIANT SUCCESS THAT REDEFINED AN INDUSTRY that the comics were? Probably not.

Will it be a shit ton of fun with some cool asskicking and getting to see some of our favorite dudes doing cool stuff on a big screen? You bet your ass it will.

(and I still like the Smashing Pumpkins bit - it was awesome that they used a song from the Worst Superhero Movie Ever to pimp what could be one of the Better Superhero Movies Ever.)

Hooper_X - 2008-11-15

Also: You heard it here first - Rorschach : Halloween 2009 :: V for Vendetta : Halloween 2006.

kingarthur - 2008-11-15

Hurm.

StanleyPain - 2008-11-15

Uh..they're not called the Watchmen. I mean, I'm looking forward to the film, but it's kind of weird to be all "THIS IS SO ACCURATE TO THE COMIC" and then have the heroes refer to themselves as the Watchmen thereby totally ruining the whole reason why the comic is called watchmen and the references thereof.
It's like some marketing guy was like "Yeah, people are calling the heroes the Watchmen cuz they've never read the book, so change that, OK?"
"CAN DO!"

Goethe and ernie - 2008-11-15

Fuck Zack Snyder for even thinking he's capable of this.

Goethe and ernie - 2008-11-15

Oh God, there's actually a lot of people here who somehow think this won't be shit. Have my ears gone insane?

KnowFuture - 2008-11-15

After seeing 3 trailers and a couple of fake ads, I'm like, 97.999999% convinced that this may actually be awesome.

The remaining percentage (and the apprehension that comes with it) is from the fact that Alan Moore agreed to that fucking horrible "V For Vendetta" adaptation.

The Great Hippo - 2008-11-15

He didn't agree to it.

And I'm pretty sure this will be shit (Laurie asking Dr. Manhattan to 'do it for me'?). But I'm a horrible cynic.

Lindner - 2008-11-15

As I recall Moore specifically insisted his name NOT be included in the credits of V for Vendetta.

HarveyTibbar - 2008-12-18

He doesn't want to be included in the credits for ANY film, no matter how it turns out.

Alan Moore's anarchic beliefs keep him averted from the Film industry. He's perfectly happy making subversive art in the fringes of pop-culture of Comics tho.

I imagine he finds it awkward to be in the spotlight.

themilkshark - 2008-11-15

Five stars but for fucks sake can I just WATCH THE MOVIE ALREADY?

oncewhite - 2008-11-15

I am seeing a serious lack of electric cars and tobacco balls.

Vicious - 2011-01-10

How does everyone feel now that we know the movie sucked and pulled weak money?

twinkieafternoon - 2011-05-19

I may not be qualified to talk about movies, but I loved the story and was very entertained watching it. So, I feel pretty good that I saw it, especially since I don't see many movies.
