Once space travel becomes common, ships computers will play sounds for events. Not just SFX for every outside event, but theme music for people entering the room too. Bill Gates' house does that, as any billionaire's lair should.

that's actually a good idea. virtual sounds (with dopplered sound) matched with external objects will help a person gain a better spatial awareness of their enviroment.

But can we hear people scream?
