I have this impression of the animator's work not being intentionally devoid of rationaly applicable spatial aspects like up down in out, but rather his or her own near-cognitive absence of such. May have invented Reading Rainbow.
I'm convinced there are no fill-in artists or background painters for this. It's just one manic artist drawing every single frame, imagining all those crazy sound effects in his head as he frantically applies ink to celluloid.
