"Where I'm from, you're born with it."

Trust fund bitch vs Real world authority. PRICELESS.

baleen - 2008-12-07

Yeah that came off in the worst possible way for him.

bias - 2008-12-07

I thinks he meant that in a professional environment you should treat people with respect and politeness instead of using demeaning colloquialisms. Allthough if thats what he was getting at i have no idea what he was doing on people's court. Also there was like five cuts in there, including a very sudden one at the end of the exchange so who knows what their actual conversation was.

But yeah whatever, he looks like a dick so choose whatever narrative makes you happy i guess.

StanleyPain - 2008-12-07

People's Court can be a lot of fun.

Aoi - 2008-12-07

So, like, is People's Court an actual court? With actual judges, and actual bailiffs, who are actual officers of the law, and have actual authority?

Because, I mean, if so, that dude behaving in that manner was RETARDED.

fluffy - 2008-12-07

It is not a real courtroom (legally it's a "third-party small-claims arbitration service"), although most of its judges have been real circuit court judges.

It's sort of like if a cop retires and then gets a job as a mall security officer.

Operation Cornflakes - 2008-12-07

It's actually a binding arbitration, so yes, this guy was a douche.

fluffy - 2008-12-07

Oh, and the way People's Court does things, both parties end up getting money in the end - there's a "participation fund" which is used to compensate the winner, and what's left over is split between both the plaintiff and defendant. So regardless of how much of a jackass someone is on the show, they won't lose money (at worst they'll just be a jackass on national TV and get ##CONTENT## for their trouble).

Syd Midnight - 2008-12-07

Fluffy covers the details, but basically, it's like RP but they agree to abide by all real-life rules. So it's a perfect simulation of a real court, with real-life judges doing the judging. It's fun.

So you don't mouth off to the judge if you have any smarts at all. AFAIK he's lucky because he lost, but IRL she could have thrown his ass in the slammer for contempt, and that was probably her first instinct.

Also, Brits, this is what America means when they say "bailiff".. just the court bouncer.

Binro the Heretic - 2008-12-07

Judge Judy would have made him burst into flames just by staring at him.

Syd Midnight - 2008-12-07

Judge Judy would have Come Down There.

Xenocide - 2008-12-08

Fun fact: Hurricane Katrina is a government hoax. What actually happened to New Orleans is that Judge Judy came down there.

revdrew - 2008-12-07

"Where I'm from, you're born with it." Yes, some people are just born with the genetic trait of being incredibly punchable.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-12-07

I dont really see how damning that statement is though, I should think that, in America, you should have the fundamental right of due process without the judge calling you honey or sugarcakes.

If this isnt true, I am definitely going to take the Bar or whatever half-assed loophole test you have to take to become a morning show judge, just so I can refer to all of my female defendants as Sugartits and throw them out of court when they get uppity.

revdrew - 2008-12-07

Yeah, but just look at his hair. LOOK AT IT.

Syd Midnight - 2008-12-07

In America, we have this Constitution that says that nobody is born with a title. Unless his momma named him "Doctor" at birth, he has to be elected to a title, or else earn the speakers respect.

And a Judge is elected and can jail your ass for contempt, so he was a real tard. If the judge calls you "faggot" you have recorse, but "honey" is a very common US term that is sometimes used dismissively towards women. Hah.

Syd Midnight - 2008-12-07

"just so I can refer to all of my female defendants as Sugartits and throw them out of court when they get uppity."

You'd have to get elected or appointed as a judge first, then hired by the show, but there are asshole judges who do that shit, and "Asshole Judge Court" would seriously make a great TV show.

"Shuddup faggot."

"But your honor.."

"HANG'EM! HANG HIS ASS HIGH!" *gavel*

phalsebob - 2008-12-07

She acts like a douche herself most of the time... I'm glad to see her both out douched and upset by it.

Midnight Man - 2008-12-07

Yeah, People's Court went straight to Hell when this grandstanding playing-to-the-camera judge judy wannabe replaced Sheindlin. Shiendlin, and Koch before him, was fun to watch because he was professional but had enough of a sense of humour to come off as 'real'. Milan is the opposite on both counts: Her stabs at humour come off as petty bullying or outright dismissiveness(you can usually predict the ruling within minutes because she almost immediately picks a favourite and makes no attempt to hide it), while at the same time feeling painfully rehearsed and disingenuous.

The dude here may come off like a less likable Thurston Howell the Third, but honestly if the state-appointed arbitrator of my legal dispute called me 'honey' and then punished me for taking exception to it, I'd sue the state.

Binro the Heretic - 2008-12-07

Koch was fun because he was slowly going senile.

seriouslyuguys - 2008-12-07

TV court week anyone?

baleen - 2008-12-07

we had something like that a while back but there was a dearth of good court show material on youtube at that time. we've had deposition week (actually the first "week" poetv ever had) but this world of shows has so much good shit in it I'd be down for an organized blitz.

RomancingTrain - 2008-12-07

I thought spending all those extra years and dollars in school was how you earned the right to be called doctor. I know I probably shouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt about that whole "Where I'm from, you're born with [respect]." thing because he was dumb enough to appear on a TV court show. But in an asshole contest between a civilian and a TV judge I have to side with against the judge, because all these TV judges seem like horrid people who get off on the absolute power that presiding over a court entails.

positively - 2008-12-08

I come to this TV court with expectations of the utmost decorum and politeness.

citrusmirakel - 2008-12-08

Is her last name pronounced "Mill-ahn", as in the Italian city and cookie?

Cause I'm not sure she lives up to the classiness of her namesake.

boba. - 2008-12-08

it's actually 'milian' (like mill-yan), i assumed it was just a typo in the submission but people in the comments above seem to have repeated it also (including in the detailed analysis of the history of people's court judges).

Midnight Man - 2008-12-08

I don;t watch it enough since she came on to recall the spelling, so I just went with the submitter's.

Xenocide - 2008-12-08

DON'T YOU LET THAT NEGRO TOUCH ME, JUDGE.

Species - 2008-12-12

I want to have sex with her so hard.
