How many names do you remember from a thousand years ago? In another 1000 years, only a handful will be remembered by most non-historians. Certainly Hitler, likely Einstein, but I expect, representing the age of manned space flight, one name will remain: Armstrong.

I think you're right, but frankly it's a shame. The space program wasn't really about the handful of dudes that walked on the moon. It was about millions of people who made it happen. I mean even to look at a simplified example, getting Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon on the first landing took three astronauts going, but how many people can name the third guy who had to be along to rendezvous the two craft for the return journey?

Distilling the whole Apollo program to just the name of Neil Armstrong is like forgetting everything about Rome except that Julius Caesar once led it.

Nahh, I bet we remember Buzz Aldrin and his fist of sanity and eventually give him credit because he's sociable and ornery, and he has a better astronaut name

The thing that strikes me the most about Armstrong; his humility is refreshingly anachronistic when relentless self promotion rules the day.

What it must have been like to walk there.
