I had that very same grey box connection kit. I dont particularly miss their navigation menu. It even came with a wall map.

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-12-22

What's cool is this is all the stuff I use the Internet for nearly EVERY DAY.

Well I thought it was pretty neat.

mashuren - 2008-12-22

Thank God I was born after the era of charging for internet access by the MINUTE.

mashuren - 2008-12-22

Or rather, started getting online after that era.

SolRo - 2008-12-22

When -I- started internet'ing, the free AOL disks only had 20 free minutes on them!

AND THEY WERE FLOPPIES!

Dib - 2008-12-23

I still have an AOL floppy. I think it's v2.5.

heyitslozeau - 2008-12-23

hell, I still remember prodigy.

baleen - 2008-12-23

I was on CompuServ, before Prodigy was formed, and it was worth the money because HOLY SHIT THE INTERNET. Back then, the internet was a treat, god damn it. I was also on The WELL which was a kind of infamous precursor to the Internet and eventually became a net portal. And if you posted spam or said something mean, your ISP would call you up on the phone and ask you to apologize. I'm not kidding, that happened to me.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-12-22

OH MY GOD WHY ARE ALL OF THESE THINGS FLYING OUT OF MY MONITOR AT ME INTERNET WHAT HAVE YOU DONE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

boner - 2008-12-22

an hour!

fluffy - 2008-12-22

Nitpick: CompuServe was a proprietary "walled-garden" network, not an ISP.

Dib - 2008-12-23

Yeah, it was pretty much AOL before AOL existed.

Xenocide - 2008-12-22

None of this sounds very interesting. Now, if this network was crawling with porn and pirated music, then we'd be talking.

hammsangwich - 2008-12-22

I used to get on Prodigy circa 1990 on my dad's work computer (Compaq all-in-one with the pop out keyboard with an AMBER display; 2400 baud modem) and play Mad Maze and look at the DOZENS of items they offered through their JC Penny store.

heyitslozeau - 2008-12-23

yes! mad maze, I was going to bring that up. Remember the witches house with the chicken legs?

Disaster - 2008-12-23

The internet. Pre-4chan.

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-23

I think that lion escaped from the Reading Rainbow opening title sequence.

Also OLD MCDONALHA-

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-23

by which i mean of course that bull and that bear. benzo's and opiates at 8:01am is not always the best path to coherency, but it certainly does help the Christmas spirit grow inside of me. Perhaps I will spend the entire day here. Not just on Poe, but save within the confines of this bracket. It's so quiet here...

chumbucket - 2008-12-23

and within 2 years the electronic mall took over everything
