This film is like Triumph of the Will: in technical execution it is a masterpiece. In content, however...well...uhm...hmm...no.

The opening box office was about M, absolutely mind blowing for 1915.

The film was shown constantly, mostly in the South, where watching it had become a tradition that spanned decades, up into the 1940's. It had made to that date over ,000,000, depending on what numbers you looked at, which would put it's adjusted gross somewhere between 0,000,000 and over a billion depending on how you choose to calculate dollar value over the decades. Not bad for a movie that cost less than two hundred grand to make.
