needs pedo tag

Dicknuts - 2008-12-30

I just read my first Neil Gaiman novel. It was really good. And this does look like Nightmare Before Christmas. But it is directed by the same guy that directed Nightmare Before Christmas. Go figure.

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-30

Nightmare before Christmas still kicks ass, Jack Skellington hoodies or not.

Camonk - 2008-12-30

The cool thing about reading a Neil Gaiman book is that you never need to read another one because they're all EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-12-31

Obviously you haven't read American Gods.

Camonk - 2008-12-31

No, I have. And that's the only one of his books anyone needs to read. Cause then they've read the best iteration of Neil Gaiman's single story.

Aelric - 2008-12-31

Besides the Sandman series

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-31

I was gonna say...Sandman rocks.

Cereal convention...anyone?

IrishWhiskey - 2009-02-11

How are they the same? The ones I've read have been very distinct in plot, character and tone. Hell, Ansasi Boys was a direct sequel to American Gods, and it was still very different.

Anyway, Nightmare was good, the book is good, and who gives a shit about Hot Topic? Am I supposed to start hating Ninja Turtles because they co-opted that too?

snothouse - 2008-12-30

Anything would be better than Monkeybone.

StanleyPain - 2008-12-30

I know this will indeed become the new fucking hot topic shit, but I am still looking forward to it. Henry Selick is awesome (except, yeah, Monkeybone) and this looks great.

Rape Ape - 2008-12-30

Aren't Hot Topic and hipster mutually exclusive? Most hipsters wouldn't be caught dead in a mall, just sayin'.

chumbucket - 2008-12-30

other than to make snide comments about the emos and other scenes walking around

bias - 2008-12-30

seriously, this has been the most annoying thing since the internet learned the word chav, and applied it to every British person under the age of thirty.

Rape Ape - 2008-12-30

Haha, yes. Spirit-bulbed.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-12-31

bulbed because i was beaten to it

i sort of blame The Hipster Handbook, which basically opened the term up to absolutely anyone who A: had an iPod B: wore t-shirts or C: disliked anything

Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2008-12-30

Fuck christ goddamn, this books sells to 14 year old emo girls at the store where I work.

Urburos - 2008-12-30

Yeah, and I'll probably be wearing one too.

zatojones - 2008-12-30

fag

Urburos - 2008-12-30

Yes, why thank you for noticing.

Lurchi - 2008-12-30

Cory Doctorow is gonna love this.

I've always hated Neil Gaiman.

Who the hell crushes bugs with their bare hands? (Or writes scripts where characters do?)

oogaBooga - 2009-01-01

I do. I wash afterwards.

PROBLEM SOLVED

Pillager - 2009-03-12

It depends on the bug...

oddeye - 2014-05-12

How do you kill bugs then? Fancy pincers or something? Just squeeze the fuckers if they are small enough and then wash your sticky hands. Fucking pansy ass.

Binro the Heretic - 2008-12-30

I dunnoh...

Gaiman can be a pretentious twat, like Clive Barker.

He can also be inexplicably brilliant, like Clive Barker.

I've never read the comic this is based on, though.

The director is the same guy who gave us "Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions."

Of course, he also directed "Monkeybone."

Tough to call.

Harveyjames - 2008-12-30

It's a book, not a comic book

Binro the Heretic - 2008-12-30

Ah, it was a BOOK-book first, then they made a comic book out of it.

My bad.

Screwtape - 2008-12-30

This seems a lot less dark than the actual book.

DMKA - 2008-12-30

Even though this will undoubtedly be Hot Topic wank material, I can't wait. The book was awesome and this looks not half bad.

revdrew - 2008-12-30

Meh.

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-31

STOP THAT!

TheDevilsDictionary - 2008-12-30

Appropriate Jones Soda/Emily the Strange promo ad at the top of the page.

wtf japan - 2008-12-31

Yeah, I'm getting that too. I guess that's the only possible result of "hipster + hot topic."

Desidiosus - 2008-12-30

I guess if I'm gonna whine about Astro Boy, I should go easy on this thing.

Michael Houser - 2008-12-30

Wow, that did not remind me in any way of my experience with the source material. Weird.
By the way, can someone articulate for me the reasons for hating Neal Gaiman? I mean, I DO, but I can't really explain why. Basically he really gets on my nerves -- but what is the source of this almost blind distaste?!

DMKA - 2008-12-30

Internet.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-12-31

Starring Sharon Stone as The Other Mother.

saganaki - 2008-12-31

Teri Hatcher, actually

Though Keith David voices the cat, which is awesome.

Keefu - 2008-12-31

So does it make me totally uncool if I'm kind of fond of Neil Gaiman.

Aelric - 2008-12-31

No, not really. You just get uncool if you worry about being cool, unless of course you are really uncool, which can and often does loop around to being faux-cool uncool chic.

Example: to become a hipster you must hate all hipster, including yourself, which make you simultaneously hipster and emo. You really need a dual major in sociology and mathematics to understand it all.

mountain dew insimination - 2008-12-31

I thought you just had to grow a large mustache for the purpouse of being ironic and base your worldview on Pitchfork Media and obscure bands.

Johnny Madhouse - 2008-12-31

I do like this animation style, so I'll enjoy this movie for that at least.

I also like Neil Gaiman, so I fully plan on enjoying this movie in general.

Spastic Avenger - 2009-07-08

Still can't see the point of making Stop motion look like CGI. Corpse Bride suffered from the same problem.
Also the design is quite lazy.
