So what did you guys think of that Thunderbirds theatrical film that came out a few years ago?

Oldmacho - 2008-12-31

When that movie came out I was a projectionist and had the severe displeasure of having to screen it, alone and with no one to make snide jokes to to ease the pressure. I have little memory of the movie since I just sort of let my eyes glaze over and see only the cigarette burns between reels. Its just a painful blur.

Minus a million stars, just for that.

I was terrified by their eyebrows.

My first exposure to this show was the Sega Genesis cart based on it, it was pretty lame (at least I thought so). At some point I saw the show and the game made more sense in retrospect but still wasn't fun.

The world before computer animation was an infinitely terrifying and awesome place.

Super Mario Nation is going to be the best Wii game ever.

The show that taught David Hasselhoff how to act.

You just know that whatever the hell that is, it's going to go up in a huge fireball.

I once interviewed Gerry Anderson for a magazine. Amazingly nice guy who could talk for hours (and did) about Thunderbirds. But, he was incapable of understanding that New Mexico is actually an American State and kept complimenting my ability to speak "such good English."

StanleyPain - 2008-12-31

Oh, by the way, it's worth noting that Anderson has absolutely no ownership or control over anything he did for ITV, with the exception of a present-day ownership of the concepts for Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, but only stuff he does with it NOW, not the old shows. In other words, he got fucked by ITV and initially was making no money from syndication or the DVDs or any of the merchandise, although that was changed a little in the 1990s. I don't know the accuracy of this, though I have no reason to disbelieve it, but he told me that he was asked to be involved in the Thunderbirds movie, but when he wanted to actually paid to work on the film (and get a credit for it), he was immediately kicked off the project.

Too bad this show didn't live up to its intro.
