The first forty five seconds had me laughing.

Innocent Bystander - 2009-01-26

Motherfucking skull.

StanleyPain - 2009-01-26

How to enhance the sound effects for your video game? TINY FART SOUNDS!

snothouse - 2009-01-26

OH GOD THE GRASS THAT IS SLIGHTLY TALLER THAN THE OTHER GRASS.

Udderdude - 2009-01-26

This gives Spelunker a run for it's money.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-01-26

That is one incredibly accident prone smurf.

gambol - 2009-01-26

SMURF THAT SMURF!

oogaBooga - 2009-01-26

What's worse, the game or the person playing it?

IrishWhiskey - 2009-01-26

I'm going to assume its has to do with horrible responsiveness from the controls, and not that he can't see a fence.

And yes, why is jumping outdoors propelled by springs, and jumping indoors propelled by gas emissions?

Syd Midnight - 2009-01-26

The Atari 2600 version had a little bat that flew across the screen, in the cave. So it's better or something.

Evilhead - 2009-01-26

Yeah I was waiting for the bat. Never played this in my life. Do I play too many video games?

revdrew - 2009-01-26

Yeah but dud 2600 Smurfette flash her titties?

Besides the bat is in the Coleco version, just on the higher difficulty levels.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-26

Why did the smurfs build fences in the middle of the road?

baleen - 2009-01-26

Ravage the land from dusk until dawwwn, I''ll place random fences and won't mow my lawwwwn!!!

Camonk - 2009-01-26

Who is that smurf anyhow? I don't remember Sideburns Smurf in the cartoon anywhere.

spikestoyiu - 2009-01-26

It's clearly Honky Tonk Smurf.

Desidiosus - 2009-01-26

He has sideburns. Hence he is Douchy Smurf.

Pillager - 2009-07-13

Zombie Smurf.

Not all of Papa Smurf's experiments were successes...

Lurchi - 2009-01-26

I had this game.

Bort - 2009-01-26

It may indeed be a gift to be simple, but this Smurf is brain-damaged.

baleen - 2009-01-26

This game was amazing because it has BLUE.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2009-01-26

This was a fantastic, revolutionary game. It was the very first platform side-scroller (there weren't even coin-ops that did side-scrolling yet) and it put games for competing console systems of the time to shame graphically.

Colecovision also had fairly realistic-to-the-arcade versions of games liks Zaxxon and Donkey Kong among others, it was a great system, just a little too late to the party in 1982.

StanleyPain - 2009-01-26

That can't be entirely true. There were games like Jungle Hunt and Moon Patrol that were doing side-scrolling before this, surely.

Syd Midnight - 2009-01-26

Defender counts as a side scroller. You can fly but it's still a scroller.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2009-01-27

Jungle Hunt and Moon Patrol both released 1982, so they were simultaneous I guess. As for Defender, not the same thing of course.

poorwill - 2010-01-04

There is no scrolling in this game, therefore it is not a sidescroller!!!! The first sidescrolling game where you jump is Jump Bug! It is actually a really fun game, though jumping is involuntary (although you can keep jumping in mid air as long as you're ascending, and you can speed up your descent too). There are also parts of the game where you scroll upwards. It was released in 1981! That is the same year as Donkey Kong! Dragon Buster (1984) is the first sidescolling game I know of where you can jump on purpose. It even has a double jump! And the first instance of the double-tap to run. MAME this shit, it's pretty fascinating.

JimL2 - 2010-09-25

ha ha ha ha ha ha no way

zatojones - 2009-01-26

I hated this game for the 2600.

Spit Spingola - 2010-03-10
