Five stars, and I hate cats. PROOF THAT THIS VIDEO IS ADORABLE.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-01-27

The kid in me likes the cuteness of the kitty, and the adult in me likes that it gets hurt.

SenilePlacebo - 2009-01-27

Well, that is why inner children should be neither seen nor heard.

baleen - 2009-01-27

kitten pain.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-01-27

is the most intense and amusing found in nature.

BHWW - 2009-01-27

It's okay. It's okay, folks. It's okay. It's okay. Thank you. Thank you. Danger is my middle name. Don't try this at home, folks. I'm a trained professional. There's me, and there's Super Dave.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-01-27

That room looks VERY odd. Is this MC Escher's house?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-01-27

Oh, I see. The chair looked like a reflection on the polished-wood floor for a minute, there.

Viewer fail.

Robin Kestrel - 2009-01-27

Same thing here. At first I thought the kitten jumped 20 feet right across the room. Freaked me out a bit.

Lurchi - 2009-01-27

Futurebot's not going to approve of the title.

kiint - 2009-01-27

Pookles - 2009-01-27

Kitten failure, or kitten fails. Please?

It's not that these words are not legitimate internet jargon, but just as you wouldn't call someone "assmunch" at the dinner table, there are different vocabularies appropriate for different situations. Poe-TV gets people to spell correctly and use punctuation, for the most part. I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise, but I like the illusion of lots of people discussing skateboarding accidents in a genteel, civilized manner.

Also, excellent video.

gambol - 2009-01-27

I have a bad habit of just naming things what they're named where I find them.

UnderANeonHalo - 2009-01-27

Heh, Kitty done falled down.

Desidiosus - 2009-01-27

I would absolutely call you an assmunch at the dinner table if I felt you deserved the moniker.

Politeness fail :D

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-01-27

Assmunch would only work at a dinner party if it was utterly appropriate, and since it almost never is, 'fuckwit' quietly and carefully enunciated might work in its place.

However, the preferred swear of the educated is 'bastard', 'bitch' or 'asshole.' 'Assmunch' is too juvenile and without concrete meaning, unless, of course, you're talking about felching in a derogatory manner.

Good luck with creating a scenario where 'assmunch' arises in natural, monocle popping, everyday conversation.

kiint - 2009-01-28

:::removes monocle:::

"you, sir, are an assmunch of the highest order."

poopskin - 2009-01-27

I've used 'fail' myself; I don't really see the problem with its usage. 'Kitten Fail' gets extra points anyways.

mcsancherson - 2009-01-27

from a linguistic standpoint language = usage

if you think fail fails, you fail

futurebot - 2009-01-27

I am not speaking as the objective arbiter of linguistic propriety, I am speaking as a dude who wants to discourage inarticulate morons from parroting internet memes in lieu of having anything actually substantial or funny to say

Deadfetus - 2009-01-27

In that endeavor, you will fail.

SenilePlacebo - 2009-01-27

If I am not incorrect, I believe it was my "You fail" comment that sparked futurebot's reply. Now I will rarely ever take a side in any of the various comment imbroglios that go on, preferring to simply sit back and enjoy them, but I must say that I am on futurebot's side here. My comment was meant to be an ironic statement towards what I perceived (and am perceiving) as a most unfortunate trend towards simplified and banal commentary based on this Fail meme for much the same reasons already stated by futurebot. I am a fan of that other site, but simply do not bother to read the comments as they are nearly as asinine as those to be found at YouTube. Whereas here I enjoy the comments as much as I enjoy the videos. In fact, despite my lack of comments, this is the only internet site where I actually bother to comment every now and again.

So there.

Camonk - 2009-01-28

Well that's only partly true. Yes, from a descriptive standpoint, linguistics is primarily interested in how people use language. But an ongoing change is very different from something that's in accepted usage. A linguist wouldn't get bent out of shape if a person from southern Memphis said "We was." But in the case of an ongoing change, it is perfectly acceptable to challenge it, to test the change and see if it's actually useful.

That said, yeah, "fail" in that sense is here to stay and there's not much we can do about it.

futurebot - 2009-01-28

There is absolutely no reason to believe that the use of "fail" as noun is "here to stay" any more than any other flash-in-the-pan meme, and we are better people for recognizing it as just that.

Species - 2009-01-27

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-25

Oh, kitty cat!

Lauritz Melchior - 2009-04-12

I was going to submit this. Searching all over for Kitten + jump. Turns out that "leap" has the same meaning.

Five Stars.

Adorableness.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-06-24

Kitten has failed to leap over the lip of the door, but has succeeded in leaping into my heart~
