I was shocked at how many adult themes this had.

They even explored Lex Luthor's homoerotic love/hate relationship with Superman.

I like how Superman actually came across as vulnerable in this, and that his death was something which would have, in the mid-90s, barely left a scratch on him. Although it was a bit retarded of him to try slamming Doomsday against the ground when he could have just thrown Doomsday into the sun, since it didn't seem like Doomsday could fly in space (unlike Superman who can). But then that would have made it a much shorter movie.

I kind of wanted to see a big battle royale between Superman and the dozens of clones though, rather than them just being weenily destroyed by the primary clone.

Also the scene where the clone performs brain surgery on himself was wonderfully ghastly, even though (or maybe especially because) all the gore and horror was implied. It seemed a bit strange that the mirror was more resistant to his heat vision than his own skin and skull though. Comic book physics are so arbitrary.

also I am a giant nerd

Infamous - 2009-01-28

You didn't even mention what he did to Toy Man. Or hell, what Toy Man did to deserve it.

SolRo - 2009-01-29

I like lexx being represented as an uncaring murderer of his own subbordinates

Monkey Napoleon - 2009-01-29

You're not *that* much of a nerd unless you knew that this movie was a horrible butchering of a Supes storyline from the mid 90's.

I know fanboys always say that about stuff, but this movie was GIANT letdown.

fatatty - 2009-01-29

Well I never read the death of Superman comics back then, which to me seem a little too convoluted to fit in a movie, so I wasn't really let down. I wasn't really expecting much so I was actually very impressed and enjoyed it. Expectations can have a big effect.

Plus who doesn't enjoy a PG-13 superman cartoon?

CharlesSmith - 2011-03-11

Are you seriously fucking kidding me? The Death of Superman storyline was probably the worst piece of crap ever to see print in comics, and that is putting it in a category with some truly peerless garbage. I was a kid reading comics and completely buying into everything at that time, and even then I hated it. It's hard to actually be disrespectful to a character who is basically a flying circus strong man with a boy-scout's manual, but here we are. This movie wasn't a faithful adaptation of it, and that is the only thing that saved it from the same black-hole of suck that was the original storyline. Nobody wants to be reminded of the actual Death of Superman, least of all DC comics.

robotkarateman - 2009-01-28

It's one of those eternal nerd questions - who would win in a fight, Superman or Superman? The Empire or the Federation? Zeon or UN Spacey? Ralph Macchio or Steve Vai?

Camonk - 2009-01-28

Your nerdiness or your gayness?

PS The answer to all those questions, including mine, is "Batman."

Rape Van Winkle - 2009-01-29

It's all politics.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-29

Answer: Nanoha and Sakura would not fight, but join forces to beat up everyone else.

ProfessorChaos - 2009-01-28

As neat as this movie was, it was just odd to have an animated superman who looked and sounded differently from the Timm "Superman" continuity.

Also, Loving the postings of cool superman clips.

Comeuppance - 2009-01-29

"Metropolis is now, and forever, under my protection."

Gwago - 2009-01-29

Whoa. This looks like it could be a cool movie.

Also, why is that kryptonite cell stuck in his cleavage?

Bort - 2009-01-29

Finally, a canonical explanation for Superdickery.

La Loco - 2009-01-29

First of all the 90's comic this was based on was just a cheap gimick to get sales back up. Doomsday, and all the stupid new supermen characters suck. Remember the Shac Steel movie?

For a good Superman story please look up Red Son or Grant Morrison's All Star Superman.

Plus this came off to me as just trying to be edgy.

How's that for nerdy?

CharlesSmith - 2011-03-11

Nobody thought you were being edgy, but when you dropped Red Son on us you completed the process of trying way too hard. Why don't you recommend we read Sandman and Watchmen while you're at it?

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-29
