The (non-governor) Republicans think they're digging Obama's grave. They figure when his stimulus fails they'll look good for opposing it. Of course the name hasn't been written on the tombstone of that grave yet, but they'll keep digging.
If they had a plan of their own or something to offer beside "HEY LOOK OBAMA'S DOING SOMETHING, STOP HIM," there might be a valid discussion to be had. All this is is mindless obstructionism. They'd rather see the country fail than allow Obama to succeed.
Arlen Specter is the unsung hero of democracy. The fact that he switched to the Democrats means that the Democrats were eventually able to muster a filibuster-proof majority -- for only six months or so, granted, but it meant we got an ACA.
