horrified.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-04-07

Yes.

And yet, strangely enough, almost satisfied.

rapsnacks - 2009-02-17

what

Triggerbaby - 2009-02-17

Terrible.

Camonk - 2009-02-17

Dr. Who is boring and anime is horrible. Being torn about this is the same as being torn between retarded and not retarded. Still four for the fact that we'll never see Wolf this far along.

baleen - 2009-02-18

1/2 of what you said is absolutely wrong. This fucking batshit ugly jap cartoon is wrong too.

Camonk - 2009-08-13

Right, sorry for what I said about Wolf. I believe in those kids, too.

Aelric - 2009-02-17

Is that what Daleks look like inside the armor? Despite being a mere Dr. Who Novice, I must say that would be really disappointing if they are just armless cyberzombies.

Xenocide - 2009-02-17

Nah, Daleks are little one-eyed squid guys on the inside. I'm not sure what the deal is with the head there.

Cheese - 2009-02-17

That's Davros, he's not quite a dalek.

I gotta say, the animation is pretty decent for home made, now if only they knew thing one about direction, editing, etc. A for effort!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-02-17

Real Daleks look like Baby Cthulhu horrors.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-02-18

Amazingly, they passed up a chance for Dalek tentacle rape.

I mean the animator threw out every other damn anime trope that 99% of its fans think are "deep" and "spiritual." That is, bikini-clad people with neon hair, martial arts every 3 seconds, boobs, and panties.

DMKA - 2009-02-17

I know which one I am.

Albuquerque Halsey - 2009-02-17

I have no idea.

Urburos - 2009-02-17

Bad in all the ways that anime is bad. Not awesome in all the ways anime is awesome.

delicatessen - 2009-02-17

I'm impressed by how horrified this made me.

Xenocide - 2009-02-17

2:30 -- "Dammit, Doctor, we can't have you bringing prostitutes into UNIT headquarters! Unless you're sharing."

There's about a billion things wrong with this, but for some reason the one that stood out most for me was that the idea of the 70-year-old John Pertwee Doctor beating up gang members with kung fu.

I mean, if you're going to go the action route, use someone more spry. You could at least have Peter Davison beat them with a cricket bat. Or have Colin Baker scream at them until they die.

Or, better yet, the whole movie is Tom Baker taking big swigs from a bottle of Jack while typing furiously on a Prime Computer. Every time he presses "enter" a moon somewhere explodes, because that's just how powerful Primes are.

Desidiosus - 2009-02-17

That was Pertwee's thing, he actually did use kung fu. I don't have an issue with that.

The whole concept is hideous, though.

Hooper_X - 2009-02-18

Jesus christ.

Bort - 2009-11-05

Really, watch some Pertwee and some Davison reruns sometime; you'll be surprised at how Pertwee's Doctor is a man of action in exactly the ways Davison's is not.

Still, Venusian karate / aikido aside, Pertwee shouldn't be able to fight like Bruce Lee. So minus a star for that, minus a star for the girl in the bikini, minus three more stars for overall horror. But Pertwee is an automatic five stars, the Brigadier is an automatic five stars, and using their actual voices is an automatic five too.

Meerkat - 2009-02-17

It's missing the obligatory dialogue:

"YAAAAAAAA!"
"AH-AH-AAAAAAAAH!"
"WH-WH-WHAAAAAA?!?!"
"Y-Y-YOOOWWWWWW!"
"W-W-WOULDYOULIKEAJELLYBABY!??"
"Y-Y-YAAAAAAA!!"

Xenocide - 2009-02-17

In this version, the Jelly Babies are alive. And they live only to rape.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-17

Jelly lolis.

fatatty - 2009-02-17

I don't like Dr. Who or anime, but I will be the first to join the impressed category.

tenten - 2009-02-17

Amateur or not, they gotta fire their sound guy.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-17

Home made anime = fanime.

Actually, scratch that. This was way, WAY too well-made to be considered a fanime. Home-made anime might actually suffice.

Very retro-looking, too.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2009-02-18

RETRO!? Maybe the way CyberSix or Big O is retro...barely sure I guess but if you mean anime retro..no.

I'm not a huge Doctor Who fan so I can't nerdrage over that but the technical skills are great and I actually dig the way he redesigns the Doctor Who monsters because they look pretty genuinely badass. Conversely, human character designs combine the worst of anime with the worst of the EDGY 90s comics. I also think his colors are a little too busy for me to really think of it as "anime" instead of 31-year-old fanboy with skill and too much time.

Still +5 for evil and a hearty bravo on the good bits.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-19

This looks very 80's anime, which is far back enough to be considered retro.

PS: Nerd rage from Dr. Who fans.

garcet71283 - 2009-02-17

5 for John Pertwee's who-fu.

Actually, if they just drop the generic anime chick (I'm guessing she's a companion) this could have promise.

Harveyjames - 2009-02-17

What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

This kid is driven and talented. Also batshit insane. If he's 14-23 this is incredible. 24 and over, I am crying.

Harveyjames - 2009-02-17

Also: DOKUTA WU

Harveyjames - 2009-02-17

"Name: Paul
Age: 31
A legend in his own mind: Paul "OtaKing" Johnson lives, breathes and sleeps classic 80s and 90s anime, back when it was still good. He also sings, animates, translates and writes about himself in the third person. "

; _ ;

allcaps - 2009-02-18

Dokuta Huu, actually. It's missing the little downward lip that would make it...

...sorry, 31? I guess that explains the chick from Bubblegum Riot.

allcaps - 2009-02-17

This is so wrong that it's right.

BHWW - 2009-02-17

I too think it's so wrong it's right; and if thinking that is wrong then I don't wanna be right. Or something along those lines. You know, whatever.

dead_cat - 2009-12-01

It's so wrong it's wrong.

B. Weed - 2009-02-17

I was just sort of pleased they didn't use Tennant.

brainbroke - 2009-02-17

It's weird, but I like this.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-02-17

I didn't want to like this but goddamn those are some cool cartoon Daleks.

Rovin - 2009-02-17

Holy shit is THIS ever a mix of awesome and wretched. Pertwee, the interpretation of the Cybermen, the Daleks... all asskicking animated goodness... and then come the giant eyed stereotypical anime bikini girls and teenagers and out of place humor and unnecessary horseshit.

The Cyberman death bit was damned cool as well.

minimalist - 2009-02-17

I approve of rat-faced anime teenagers with stupid haircuts being exterminated by Daleks.

Corman's Inferno - 2009-02-18

This would be a five if he trimmed all the cliche bullshit and just went with the Daleks and Cybermen murdering stereotypical anime characters and then each other.

sosage - 2009-02-18

Technical execution is awesome for an independent artist. Now if he broke away from his fanime roots, which is acting as baggage to the over all look, this could be really fucking cool.

FABIO - 2009-02-18

Amazing fan animation, but he can't ditch the anime teenagers and sound guy fast enough.

Innocent Bystander - 2009-02-18

I don't know jack about anime or Dr. Who but if all this was made by one dude, I am impressed.

FABIO - 2009-02-18

According to him it takes him one year to produce 5 minutes of animation O_O

Simian Pride - 2009-02-22

One year for five minutes!?

Most of what is considered classical anime esthetics is simply the result of the animation being done FAST and CHEAPLY!

Way to fail at the essence of anime, otaku-san.

dead_cat - 2009-12-01

ONE YEAR. ONE YEAR! For five minutes of *that"!!

Oh fuck, I laughed so hard at this I nearly vomited. FIVE.

nuzzles - 2009-02-18

At least one star is for the concept of an animated Jon Pertwee (in the frilly suit!!) and the dalek.

It looks really good, actually, but maybe I'm just ruined because when I think fan-made animation, I think:

1. That hideous thing with the Sailor Moon Care Bears
2. BOOOOOONK!

That said, I'd swear I've seen ideas thrown around for a Doctor Who cartoon already...like around the 1980s. I don't know if it ever got past the conceptal stages, but in the one piece of art I've seen, the Doctor reminded me of Egon from the Real Ghostbusters. Also, I think he had question marks all over his coat like Matt Lesko.

...wait, holy crap!! Is that the Brigadier, too? Damn...

fluffy - 2009-11-28

There have been a few official Doctor Who cartoons. Most of them were terrible, except for Scream of the Shalka which was wonderful.

theSnake - 2009-02-19

Its been a day since I saw this and... still terrified that this is fan made, and the implications of that.

phalsebob - 2009-05-14

Ok Japan, I'm gonna say this just once. I've put up with your awful god damn cartoons long enough. Go ahead and make your shitty cartoons about emo chop socky mary sue girly men. Keep your tiny hands off Dr. Who. We used the bomb twice and we have more... just saying.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-27

This submission is really opening my eyes to the level of funny nerd rage Dr. Who fans are capable of.

frau_eva - 2010-07-21

Wow, a fandom for a show in which someone being eaten by an inflatable chair is an acceptable menace is judging someone else.

Look, we're all neckbeads. We can all agree that this is technically skilled yet with atrocious design. Let it go.

Pie Boy - 2009-06-18

E in PoETV

fluffy - 2009-09-16

Those character designs are all over the whole fucking map. Did he just cut-and-paste characters from a bunch of other anime or something, like he did the dialog from Doctor Who?

dead_cat - 2010-02-15

I'm certain he did.

Black Napkins - 2009-09-28

I will not lie: I am a nerd and I could nerd rage all over this, but instead I find it hilarious. Anime cliché as slappable companion is great. I suspect the sound guy thing is because he's using clips for large chunks of it. But yeah, Pertwee kung-fu.

Black Napkins - 2009-09-28

Forgot: the idea of someone putting this amount of work into a Doctor Who fanime strikes me as very model train guy British for some reason. Maybe because I'm thinking of a specific model train British guy.

atheistgirl - 2010-04-27

It looks like two animations jamed together. It jars.

Cool Cybermen though.

Killer Joe - 2011-01-30

I approve.
