This is the most disturbing film I've ever sat through.

Not Satanic. Mythology rendered as amateur film on grainy filmstock. Athena's birth out Zeus's forehead, dramatized as a gore film, wouldn't be Satanic either.

I like mythology. I don't mind gore. I like film-stock manipulation and decay. Begotten bored me to tears.

The film is an interesting cultural document, but not a very successful film. Weird for weirdness' sake, solipsistic, and pretentious.

I guess if you're 12 this film must seem pretty deep. I remember my family laughing really hard at some kind of rape scene.

It's mostly horrifyingly boring.

I can be down with the avant garde and all that, but Begotten is seriously 55 minutes longer than it needs to be.
