It's core is an armature linking the center pieces of each side to a central hub that allows rotation. The faces are made of interlocking sliding tiles with special pieces at the corners and sides.

This puzzle has a much higher count of unique pieces than the cubes, which regardless of the number of tiles can use the same part for the majority. I imagine it was a long and precise task to produce this. Autism ahoy!

Regardless of complexity, they all use the same techniques to solve. People should know better than to enter the hell that is a thousand tile Rubik's puzzle.
