nightmarish

Zoot42 - 2009-03-17

Look kind of like sand crabs, they even do the back peddle through air thing.
For those of you who haven't experienced their horror:

Damn, the address just redirects, just look them up if you want to see them.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-03-17

Now there's an Iron Chef secret ingredient I'd love to see.

"If memory serves me right, there is a certain part of the marine isopod that is considered a delicacy. Naturally, I speak of the little squirmy kicky leg parts, for they are the most disgusting part and we Japanese will eat fucking anything we find in the sea. Probably raw, too - to be honest, most of our traditional cuisine is based on a dare. So, the next time you are served marine isopods, remember to ask for 'the little squirmy kicky leg parts'."

I just used my stars but I transfer them to you.

gambol - 2009-03-18

SolRo - 2009-03-17

deep sea isopods get up to a foot long, yay

rustedmutt - 2009-03-18

SO CUTE. I love these critters.

And look...the one at 0:51 is blowing us kisses!

Camonk - 2009-03-18

When you say "better animals" what are these better than? being kicked in the balls? yeah okay looking at a sea bug for a buck thirty is better than being kicked in the balls. Otherwise these are sea horrors that that should be eradicated.

fluffy - 2009-03-18

Adorable, and the music adds so much

mouser - 2009-03-18

I actually deduct points for the music.

Sea roaches takes most of them back though.

smoothbrain - 2009-03-18

But how do they taste?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-03-18

Giant isopods up close are even more horrifying. They are like a giant scuttling mix of lobster and cockroach.

And I could be wrong, but I think these guys live off of coffee.

RomancingTrain - 2009-03-18

No, I think these are the ones that bite out a fish's tongue, live in it's mouthhole and eat whatever the fish eats.

rustedmutt - 2009-03-18

Ahh, Train, your friend and mine: Cymothoa exigua.

According to that wikipedia article, they're supposed to be found only off the coast of California.

When I was about 10 years old, in Sicily, me and my best stole a small rowboat and took it out fishing. We had caught quite a few when, after poking one of the fish, one of those disgusting white parasites crawled out of its mouth. Being a pair of pussies, we completely freaked out. We then started poking the rest of our catch, and actually most of the fucking fish we caught had these things crawling out of their mouth, so we screamed like little girls each time one would and then threw all our catch back into the sea. Until today, I had no idea what the fuck they were.

Innocent Bystander - 2009-03-18

FUCKING SHIT, KILL IT! KILL'EM ALL! STEP ON 'EM! AAAAAAGHH!

Seriously, I have a bug thing.

Xiphias - 2009-03-18

Sammy Barnathan - 2009-03-18

Fire, and lots of it.

Species - 2009-03-18

Could you imagine working on aquatic equipment in the water at a marina and one of these things tries to crawl up your suit? *shudders*

thebaronsdoctor - 2009-04-18

I don't get what everyone's so freaked out about, these little fellas are lovably foppish.

"Hey man! Put me down! C'mon man! I'm movin' but I ain't gettin' nowhere! Crap, now I'm upside down!"

Squeamish - 2009-11-03

Is that what you hear? Because all I hear is the high-pitched, discordant warbling of a god who hates us and wants us to live in fear.

Sanest Man Alive - 2009-12-21

I kinda want to rub its belly.
