Obama NEEDS to make diplomatic overtures to Iran partly so that he can prove to our allies (i.e. Russia and China) that "he's tried everything" and tough sanctions, along with big incentives, are the only way to make Iran play ball. So, yes, he actually does know what he's doing.

You know who else tried to talk friendly to Iran? Jimmy Carter. And his talks with them were a complete failure. He failed to realize that the people who run the country are fanatic savages who desire our destruction.

I like that you give Carter shit for talking to Iran, skipping over the fact that Reagan illegally smuggled them WEAPONS. Also: after exhausting diplomatic efforts, Carter tried to free the American hostages in a military operation. That operation failed, but it's strange to fault him for using every tool in his arsenal to try to resolve the crisis, or to insinuate that somehow Carter was unaware that the Iranian government posed a threat.
