Caminante Nocturno - 2009-03-30

Oh man, I still haven't gotten used to a respectful president being in the White House.

Tstyle - 2009-03-30

It's nice when the adults are in charge.

glasseye - 2009-03-30

It's like, we're a real country again, not some horror show pantomime.

Cena_mark - 2009-03-30

Our nice words and smiles will make the enemies of freedom just throw down their arms. If you throw on just a few more compliments maybe they'll even give women rights and give their people religious freedom.

RockBolt - 2009-03-30

Since when do you care about either of those things?

glasseye - 2009-03-30

I'm sure the conservatives in their government will prevent that, just like conservatives have tried to do here.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-03-30

The enemies of freedom were defeated last November. I'm sure you remember seeing it happen, no matter how hard you'd like to forget.

Dinanukht - 2009-03-30

Right. Because Bush's strategy of talking tough (and doing nothing) with Iran made them "throw down their arms." And we don't have good diplomatic ties because they don't have *women's rights* and *religious freedom*–not like our good pals in Saudi Arabia.

I know–why don't we hurl insults at Iran and muse publicly over "regime change"? Let's see how that works out. I'm sure a magical democratic wonderland would instantaneously result.

Obama NEEDS to make diplomatic overtures to Iran partly so that he can prove to our allies (i.e. Russia and China) that "he's tried everything" and tough sanctions, along with big incentives, are the only way to make Iran play ball. So, yes, he actually does know what he's doing.

Cena_mark - 2009-03-30

I've always been for those freedoms. I just don't scream it like the Liberals do because they aren't being violated in the U.S. All you had was paranoia. Just because Bush won 2 terms you feared the evangelicals were making the U.S. a theocracy. Well Iran is a real deal theocracy. Women get stoned for disobeying their husbands. Christians and Jews are oppressed.
The exaggeration that made Bush out to be a theocratic dictator is the same liberal exaggeration that makes Gitmo worse than Auschwitz.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-03-30

Way to turn your back on the point and aim for a completely different target, mark.

voodoo_pork - 2009-03-30

Let's bomb the intolerance out of there!

Cena_mark - 2009-03-30

You know who else tried to talk friendly to Iran? Jimmy Carter. And his talks with them were a complete failure. He failed to realize that the people who run the country are fanatic savages who desire our destruction.

Dinanukht - 2009-03-30

I like that you give Carter shit for talking to Iran, skipping over the fact that Reagan illegally smuggled them WEAPONS. Also: after exhausting diplomatic efforts, Carter tried to free the American hostages in a military operation. That operation failed, but it's strange to fault him for using every tool in his arsenal to try to resolve the crisis, or to insinuate that somehow Carter was unaware that the Iranian government posed a threat.

NoCode - 2009-03-30

Five spirit-stars for Caminante's comment.

Tstyle - 2009-03-30

' If you throw on just a few more compliments maybe they'll even give women rights and give their people religious freedom. '

I don't understand your position Cena.

Should we invade other counties because they violate our western ideas of freedom?

Or do we do what most 'real' libertarians would encourage, and let self determination guide other cultures/countries and simply embargo them or better yet keep them as business partners?

You are sounding more like a Clinton style interventionist when you site these UN style interventions.

What is it?

dunce.

Cena_mark - 2009-03-31

Peestyle: Libertarians believe in upholding the U.S. Constitution, if a foreign enemy threatens it, it is our duty to send their asses to Allah.

KnowFuture - 2009-04-06

You know who else tried to talk friendly to Iran?

HITLER.

Bort - 2009-03-30

That last bit at the end was Muslim for "Don't worry, brothers in Allah, I'm on your side". At least that's what I expect will be the spin.

Dinanukht - 2009-03-30

c'mon, Obama. you're only supposed to say nice things about their culture *after* we bomb them.

..... we do still get to bomb, right? I mean two wars seems grossly inadequate to our insatiable need for bloodshed.

The McK - 2009-03-30

It must be hard to cross your legs like that when your balls are that huge.

Ghost stars for "diplomacy" being a completely unlinked tag.

Slumgullion - 2009-03-30

There's nothing evil about this, but I'm 5-starring anyway.

James Woods - 2009-03-30

I'm glad to see people feel good about Obama on poe. Can someone explain to me why I see a lot of comments from your side of the border about how Obama is totally Hitler, or the Anti-Christ, or some illuminati plot, and marshal law etc etc. Are those people outspoken about their beliefs irl? I've just seen some crazy youtube comments that scare me a bit.

Kumquatxop - 2009-03-31

Well, think about the mindset/logic required to actively support someone like Palin. Then think about how many people voted for her. There are a LOT of them.

wtf japan - 2009-03-31

Yes, people are outspoken about these things, but it's regional. You can escape the crazies if you want, for the most part. I mean, the U.S. may not be as progressive as Mexico, but we've got our pockets of civilization here and there.

mr666 - 2009-03-31

It's not regional, really. Dipshits exist in every city of every country of the world.

And holy shit, don't take Youtube comments as a cross section of anyting. The retards, trolls and batshit crazy will swarm over any post you can find but that doesn't mean they speak for anyone but themselves.

James Woods - 2009-03-30

Also, Samuel L. Jackson should sgtar in a summer blockbuster about Obama's first 100 days. But with explosions and secret espionage missions.

GlennFinito - 2009-03-31

And him saying "motherfucker" every other word, mothafucka

Jefka - 2009-03-30

Five stars for the absolute terror the Palin rally-goers must feel watching something like this.

Adham Nu'man - 2009-03-31

Considering this is a politician speaking, this TRULY deserves a short and sweet tag.

eatenmyeyes - 2009-04-05

Obama of the Americans wishes to trade Engineering for Astronomy.

Rape Van Winkle - 2010-03-24

wat?

Rape Van Winkle - 2010-03-24

Cleverest thing I've ever read on POEtv, or you are just smoking pot.

Five stars for you.

fluffy - 2009-07-30

I just can't stop loving this man, even if his administration is trying to protect the previous one for some ridiculously convoluted reason involving Jon Stewart.
