For a moment I thought Carville must have had a stroke at some point and then I remembered he was from Louisiana.

Democracy is a Christian value.
That appeared 1800 years after Christianity.
Yeah.

|
Screwtape - 2009-04-07 Sorry, Democracy in the sense of widespread adoption in the western world.

. . . . ohhh yeah, the 'judeo-christian tradition' is DEFINITELY where America gets its respect for freedom of religion!
|
StanleyPain - 2009-04-07 It mostly traces back to the well-seeded myth that the founding fathers were all strict religious types, which isn't even remotely true.

It's just amazing to me that this guy could not, somehow, make the connection in his brain that his insistence on defining America as a "Christian nation" gave ammunition to those radicals who would make a "Muslim nation" of Turkey.

simon666 - 2009-04-07
These values came from constant critical self analysis mostly uninhibited by the government.

I want to hate obama, i want to god damn it, but turkey is losing it's battle with religion, ataturk is now just a statue and religious bigots are trying to take over and return turkey to the barbaric state of the califate, and obama goes there, to a place where the leader of the gay movement was beheaded by his own father in an honor killing not so long ago, and he stresses the importance of the separation of church and state... god damn it O... and the lifting of the ban on stem-cell research... ok You rule! I had my doubts... i wanted to hate you... Damn it i cheer for you! you chocolate hero!
Sorry if i'm a bit incoherent but english isn't my first language and i'm still in awe of the statement.

Come on, Cena, show up and explain why this makes Obama the new Socialist Terror Mechahitler. And call me "Merzblow" or something.

Wait, wait, wait, did that GOPAC jackoff just say we get our freedom of religion from Judeo-Christian values?
|
IrishWhiskey - 2009-04-08
I think the lesson here is that the GOP is opposed to any recognition of the separation of church and state, even in Muslim countries.
And as soon as we stop caring about what the South thinks, we're all better off. No offense to reasonable people in the South, but its the one region that still gives Bush a decent approval rating and has a majority wanting creationism taught in schools.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-04-08
I like how they have the stats next to Carville and Donatelli like it's an NFL game.
This is the most inane bullshit. I could give a shit what people think about what Obama thinks about what Turkey thinks about the work of P. T. Anderson. How about they call it the Gossip Room?
|
pastorofmuppets - 2009-04-08 Not that my heart isn't warmed by the fact that I voted for a guy who had the balls to come right out and say what all thinking people have known since there was a United States to speak of: namely that we are not in fact a Christian nation, however people like to spin it. The church doesn't have a monopoly on morality. They only become "Christian" values when you start valuing shit like a virgin birth.
|
fermun - 2009-04-09
The GOP needs to read the 1796 Treaty of Tripoli. It flat-out states that we are not a christian nation.
