Sega's advertisements convinced me that only assholes played Sega.

You know what?

I was right.

Fur is Murder - 2009-04-07

Karma's a bitch, ain't it Sega?

pastorofmuppets - 2009-04-08

I'd call it a shitty grasp of hardware design and bad management. They've always made fun games. Ads like these are caused them to be successful, their shrinking was their own stupidity.

Look up how many different Sega/MegaCDs there were. I dare you.

boner - 2009-04-07

Is Sonic the Hedgehog the only goddamn game the Genesis had?

Screwtape - 2009-04-08

No, its got way more games than the competition. Lotta games. Yeah.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-04-08

Most of the more popular games got ported to SNES as well as Genesis. But the Sega versions weren't censored.

Good ones to try that I think are exclusives would be Castlevania: Bloodlines, Streets of Rage, Comix Zone, Road Rash 3, Vectorman, Gunstar Heroes

Sega always bet wrong. I bet wrong on Sega a couple times as an impressionable youth until I finally learned my lesson.

Sega always has good ideas in the beginning, but then at some point they always come to a crossroads, and unswervingly always take the wrong road. Ever since they expanded from the arcade market, they were always using someone else's playbook and running them all wrong. Concentrating on the wrong genres and too much mascot humping on the Genesis, the 32X that they forgot to get developers for or make affordable in any way, the Saturn that cost way too much and peaked with its launch titles. Then they forgot to tell anyone about the Dreamcast until it was abandoned.

And then this year, exactly three months before all broadcast television goes digital they released this:

http://i.gizmodo.com/5146929/the-sega-vision-segas-new-handhel d-that-denies-sonic-exists

A 0 device that touts a format that most people don't use, an analog TV tuner, two measly gigs of memory and then they removed its ability to play even flash games just to keep up appearances.

I swear if they developed a gun, it would have a backwards barrel.

Well, the Genesis DID have a better overall library than the SNES. The SNES like any Nintendo system had a handful of megahits and a fuckload of tripe. The Saturn and the Dreamcast both actually had fantastic libraries, but unfortunately most of the good stuff never came across from Japan. Luckily they are both very import friendly, but most people are too lazy for that kind of thing unfortunately.

They did well with the Dreamcast. I think it was as popular as it could have been. It just wasn't enough to save them from the money they blew on previous hardware mistakes (of which there are many more than people are even aware of) and bad business practices (like warring and sabotage between the US and Japan division).

I had a Megadrive as a youth, and loved it dearly. Shining Force, Dynamite Headdy, Story of Thor, Soleil, Alien Soldier, Vectorman, all remembered fondly.
But yeah, they fucked themselves royally with the Mega CD, the 32x, the Saturn...
