I think that this speech was written when he was on the toilet

chumbucket - 2009-04-09

(dramatic pause)

Screwtape - 2009-04-09

All good things are produced whilst on the toilet, friend.

chumbucket - 2009-04-09

my point (pause) exactly

Kumquatxop - 2009-04-09

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

The McK - 2009-04-09

A speech written on the toilet is better than this crap deserves.

TeenerTot - 2009-04-09

Witnessing the phase-out of baby boomers in government is a great thing.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-04-09

Watching the baby boomers panic at their inevitable irrelevance is cathartic and frustrating at the same time.

CharlesSmith - 2009-04-09

The bit about the generational difference is bang on. It seems like everyone under 25 is just waiting until the boomers die so we can get on with civilization. Meanwhile the boomers are putting the final touches on their plot to literally take it all with them.

Camonk - 2009-04-09

I'm 29 and I'm not gonna be sad when the fucking babyboomers are gone and we can finally party. By which I mean have some actual government business get done.

Yeah, sure, we'll still have the Cena Marks to deal with but I mean come on. If we can't handle Mark then we've got bigger problems than him anyhow.

phalsebob - 2009-04-09

25? I'd peg that at at least 45. I can't think of anyone I know under 45 with more than a HS education that puts much stock is halting the gay menace.

ProfessorChaos - 2009-04-09

Don't be so optimistic. We've still got another... 20 or so years before boomers start actually leaving the political/voting arena. In the meantime, they will run up medicaid/Medicare costs to levels that eclipse prior spending at a cataclysmic level. (Demographically, these people will be vastly opposed to universal health care. And why shouldn't they be? Their needs are already subsidized.)

P.S. This is why health care is a major problem.

cognitivedissonance - 2009-04-09

On the plus side? 2008 had more births than any year EVER, including the Post-War Boom, so we're sitting pretty as the middle generation between two royal sucks.

CharlesSmith - 2010-10-28

Yeah see once you start adding conditions like "with more than a HS education" it starts to completely fall apart. I'll tell you right now, 45 is very much not the cutoff age, not matter how much you may want it to be. I find it very doubtful that the majority of 45-year-olds are sitting around watching golf and complaining that the baby boomers are insanely wasteful and morally repugnant and that the world will only truly be able to move on once they're all dead. That does not strike me as authentic.

Even the stupid people I know my age don't buy any of this horseshit. The most religious girl I ever knew was an extremely devout Mormon, and the only thing she disagreed with the church over was their stance on homosexuality. Don't get me wrong, my generation will find something new and terrible to be awful bigots about. But it will be brand new. We'll hate cyborgs or genetically engineered people or non-cyborgs or a third gender or gingers.

Lurchi - 2009-04-09

Is he wearing eyeshadow?

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-04-09

You guys don't understand... You're already dead!

ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!!!

Comeuppance - 2009-04-09

I knew there was a reason I hadn't voted on this yet.
I was waiting for this comment.

Xenocide - 2009-04-09

"Then my daughter turned around and walked away. One of the men said 'God hates fa-' just before he exploded.

"Then she fought a biker gang consisting of nine foot tall bodybuilders with giant butcher knives, and she killed them all. My daughter is pretty awesome, Senator."

HURF BLURF DUH - 2009-04-13

Caminante's comment is spot on... in an ideological sense. Hearing that young woman say that must have been just like machine gun fire to their withered old hearts.

Mad Struggle - 2009-04-09

You lose! Good day, sir!

Kumquatxop - 2009-04-09

baleen - 2009-04-09

i'd marry xiphias

mr666 - 2009-04-09

Aww....You'd break Cena Mark's heart doing that. He's been eyeballing you for some time now.

Camonk - 2010-06-10

I think we'd all marry Xiphias.

Xenocide - 2009-04-09

Well, I never thought that the best damn speech I've ever heard from an official on the subject of gay marriage would come from, of all places, the Iowa state senate. I am duly impressed.

Nice work, Iowa. You corn-worshiping hicks are alright.

RockBolt - 2009-04-10

Mmmhmm

Lies, lies, LIES! - 2009-04-30

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I want to high-five this man until we have blisters on our palms.
