:D

:)

robotkarateman - 2009-04-12

As mankind learns to vent its instinctual violence through video games and internet forums we will see fewer wars and lost robots.

Hooper_X - 2009-04-12

I LOVE YOU TWEENBOT.

This is the best fucking Master's Thesis ever.

James Woods - 2009-04-12

1:00 to 1:30-ish is beautiful. Five stars.

I can't wait for the day when it's a regular occurrence that kind humans stop to help robots-in-need find their way home, as they're fetching my groceries or walking my dog.

Stupid Lisa Garbage Face - 2009-04-12

I'm just surprised nobody accidentally ran over it with their bicycle.

Also, I hate the fact that you just have to draw a happy face on a motor and suddenly it's a "robot".

DerangedGoblin - 2009-04-13

Yeah, I hesitated on actually making that a tag, but I figured it would maybe prevent duping later.

I feel like calling everything that does something a robot raises hopes and dashes them. "Look, the robots of the future," turned out to be small crane arms that make cars.

halon - 2009-04-13

Shut up, robot.

Old_Zircon - 2009-04-13

I don't know how to rate this, since I like the video, but the music and the artist's statement on the accompanying website make me want to die.

spikestoyiu - 2009-04-13

The "artist's statement" pretty much ruined any enjoyment I may have potentially gleaned from this clip.

Old_Zircon - 2009-04-13

Yeah, I try to forgive those things because they pretty much HAVE to be insufferable to actually get a person funding, but it usually doesn't work.

kennydra - 2009-04-13

fact: new yorkers care less about homeless people than the stuff their makeshift dwellings are made of.

Hooper_X - 2009-04-13

It's the cuteness factor. As soon as I saw it, I said "They should do a second run with an ugly one, and then a third control run where it has no face at all!" I guarantee you'd get different results.

MightierThanTheSword - 2009-04-13

My god, it's cute. I probably would have followed it the whole way.

The Faghorn - 2009-04-13

I'd like to see the same thing tried in Boston.

Hooper_X - 2009-04-13

Yeah, there are only a handful of cities with the population density and the foot traffic to even attempt this, but I imagine the results would be pretty similar, depending on the time of day - people who are out on a saturday walking their dogs, riding bikes, playing in the park, are going to be more amenable to a bit of fun than your tuesday morning harried business folk, regardless of location.

(It'd be cool to try it in different countries, too. You could definitely give it a whirl in most European capital cities...)

Doctor Arcane - 2009-04-13

I was about to make the same comment. Try that shit here, and we'd blow the fuck out of it.

kennydra - 2009-04-13

I think the point was that Boston thinks things are bombs, Hooper. :)

Witty_Pop_Culture_Reference - 2009-04-13

I know 'robot' can be a somewhat ambiguous term at times, but a marker smiley face and cardboard on a battery powered toy truck doesn't really qualify to me.

Also, the whole experiment is just basically showing a smiley face to babies and recording their reaction.

chumbucket - 2009-04-13

One of the few reasons why a skynet-like judgment day won't really ever happen

Boxhead - 2009-04-13

5 stars for unearthing those on PoeTV who have an innate dislike of smiley faces.

I think you could correlate dislike of happy faces with with anger towards kittens.

Causation? Unsure.
