What is that sound? My cat makes it too but only when talking to birds.

According to my cats (I have 2), it seems to be a call to cooperation.

Whenever one of my cat sees a big through the window, he calls up his bro in exactly this fashion. The other typically responds the same way a couple of times and while the first one continues to "distract" the bird like this, the other cat will stalk into the room looking for the prey.

Could be my imagination, but to me, it sounds like they're fucking with the bird while one tries to snatch it from behind.

So it's Cat for "Holy shit check out this awesome bird!"

I think its cattish for "I'm frustrated, and can't see how the hell I'll get to that antenna you're perched on to eat you".

I used to fuck with my cats with recordings of birdsong. The cats would make the same sort of vocalisation while staring at the speakers intently, then would jump unto the bookcase and search intently above, below, and behind the speakers, sometime knocking books off in their hunt.

It's a killing noise.

It's a way they have of trying to experience the scent of whatever they're ogling more fully, like how we're supposed to breathe while we taste wine. The sound is a side-effect. As it was told to me by a cat lady of some repute, so do I tell it unto you.

They're discussing how the economy got in such bad shape.
