"IT" probably being his job. I would've loved to have seen this live.

wtf japan - 2009-04-22

Is it not torture because America does it, or does America do it because it's not torture?

Frank Rizzo - 2009-04-22

we have other counties do it.

wtf japan - 2009-04-22

Like Isael?

IrishWhiskey - 2009-04-22

I guess you hadn't heard. We actually do. Its says so in these papers here. Ya see? Right there. We even tortured one guy 186 after we knew we had all the information we needed from him. And we tortured others to get them to say there were links between Al-Qaeda and Saddam, to give us political cover for the war. President, Vice-President, they all agreed to it. And that's just the beginning. Then there's the stuff in black sites, and "unauthorized" torture occurring in prisons throughout Iraq. And the stuff we send people to other countries to have them do. So yeah, we actually love torturing the shit out of people. Boy, I bet you feel silly for saying we don't, huh?

...oh, was that not what you meant?

Rovin - 2009-04-22

They can't fire Shep, he's got more jokes to make at Glenn Beck's expense, dammit!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-04-22

I hope they do fire him. Shep is way better than Fox News now that he's come out of the closet as an actual human being.

longwinded - 2009-04-22

Why does Shep Smith hate America?

Albuquerque Halsey - 2009-04-22

vote up the replacement. longer setup and aftershock.

Keefu - 2009-04-22

"Oops"

fatatty - 2009-04-22

Someone forgot to take their pills. Or someone took the wrong pills.

Keefu - 2009-04-22

Yeah, with the longer clip and context, I'm pretty sure he's trying to say that he is against torture.

Keefu - 2009-04-22

Meaning he is being a decent dude again, don't snark him.

Camonk - 2009-04-22

Yeah, he says pretty clearly, it doesn't matter if it works, it's wrong.

StanleyPain - 2009-04-22

Funny....for decades the waterboarding at Tuol Sleng in Cambodia was used as an example or torture and we condemned them for it, along with their atrocities. And, during WWII, Japanese who waterboarded POWs were subject to human rights violation charges and some actually served time in prison.

So, I'm curious what answer the oh-so-loyal party line towers have to the fact that if this is not torture, than why did the US and the world at large condemn it's use in the past? Does this mean you are, by extension, defending the Khmer Rouge and Japanese mistreatment of POWs in WWII?

Meerkat - 2009-04-22

Shut up.

StanleyPain - 2009-04-22

NO U

Cena_mark - 2009-04-22

I don't care if waterboarding is defined as torture or not. Our people in the military and CIA should still be able to do it if the situation requires it. The people you're trying to save from "torture" do not deserve your help. Just let it be and let the men serving their country do their jobs for a change.
The libs keep complaining about how hard progress comes in Iraq in Afghanistan. Let them do their jobs and it'll come.
Shepherd Smith is mad and rightfully so. He has to defend our troops from Goddamn liberals who think the "rights" of some murdering savages are more important than the survival of our armed forces.

Louis Armstrong - 2009-04-22

Hey! Cena is calling Shepherd a commie liberal.

I don't know wether to give him two gold stars or waterboard him. (sniffle) I'm so proud of him(tear).

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-04-22

Cena_mark, let me just explain, because I think there's been a lack of understanding here...how to put this...

You're wrong about everything, not just because you're a conservative, but because your gaping maw symbolizes everything that's wrong with the human race. You were right to attempt suicide. You are utterly, completely worthless and so is everything you believe.

You deify blindly following leadership without question so why don't you shut your cunt mouth up and go to North Korea like a good little obedient thought slave and leave it to others to clean up the mess that people like you, you willfully mindless automaton, have shit out on top of this nation like so much taco grande.

StanleyPain - 2009-04-22

Cena, I know you're a troll, and you're getting more transparently fake every day, but that's another issue... However, since a lot of people actually think in the way you're faking writing about, my response would be this:

Torture is such a pointless and abhorrent act to commit during times of war that even the founders of the US understood it before there even was a US. I know it's become the new conservative "thing" to now discount everything and anything our founders said or did and boil it down into some made-up anecdote, but great men like George Washington were passionate about treating enemy soldiers with dignity for the obvious reason that if you don't, you become the same as them and you also give their side an excuse to paint you as the enemy and covert more followers.
In the modern age, we know for a fact that extreme methods of punishment on enemy combatants doesn't actually result in any better intelligence or information. Field soldiers and people who have actually had to be in the shit as opposed to sitting behind a desk (or in front of the TV) routinely opine about how they were able to get further with enemy soldiers through dignified treatment than they ever were through torture.
We also now face religious extremists who paint an ugly, horrible picture of Americans as a way of recruiting more and more youths into their cause. If you seriously think that the Abu Ghiraib photos didn't end up becoming recruitment posters for extremists everywhere, you would be very, very wrong. These people are deluded and insane. They are certainly not SCARED of torture. It doesn't make them rethink their life decision. If anything it galvanizes them and makes them say "this is what I am fighting against, the horrendous treatment of my people by this evil country."
Being against torture has little to do with giving a shit about the comfort of these people and more about trying to set an example and keep our humanity and conduct ourselves with a little dignity instead of using power to hurt and punish.

Many people cannot understand this because they think 2-D representations of global conflicts that they see in a movie or on TV can be easily solved by a few bullets or punches or electrodes. The bad guy gets his and the good guy saves the day. The real world doesn't work like that, and the torture issue is probably one of the easiest ways of determining who can actually grasp reality and who truly cannot.

Aelric - 2009-04-23

I used to like Cena, but that was 2008, a more innocent time. He stared as a brilliant troll. When he started borrowing Billy Buttsex's old stuff, it started going south. Now he is just played out. It's like the Rolling Stones, you can put in their older stuff and it rocks, but don't bother going to a concert nowadays.

I'm sure if he responds, he'll call me Ale-dick. I miss Roachbud.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-04-23

"The real world doesn't work like that, and the torture issue is probably one of the easiest ways of determining who can actually grasp reality and who truly cannot."

What he said.

futurebot - 2009-04-23

Cena, I will torture you in Lex Luger's torture rack. I will make you tap out.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-23

Failic: My arguments have gotten lazy I'll admit that. Its hard being outnumbered the way I am. Imagine yourself on a Drudge Report forum using your arguments, "Torture doesn't work, because it just doesn't work."
Its hard sometimes just to keep up the fight.
But I assure you, I truly believe in what I've said. There are times where "torture" may be used to save American lives.
When you say torture doesn't work how do you know. I'll bet if you were tortured you'd give up any information your torturers want. Just cause some liberal articles say it doesn't work doesn't make it so.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-23

Pastbot: Your torture rack is no match for my Figure 4, or STFU.

Aelric - 2009-04-23

Well, Cena, it's not results I argue, it's ends justifying means. Perhaps I'm an idealist, but I just don't like the idea of the good guys doing the bad guy things. That is my problem with in and I think it's honest enough a problem. I like to keep it simple like that. It's not that I think these guys don't deserve to be punished, I just think we shouldn't become them to fight them.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-23

Stanly pain accused me of having a Hollywood view of the war on terror as though we conservatives support torture because Jack Bauer does it. At the same time liberals have a Hollywood view like that of Golden Age comics I.E. the "We're the good guys, good guys don't torture" argument. Things are more complicated than both those views.
I'm not as heartless as I sometimes sound. I am aware that some detainees are not guilty. But I approach war pragmatically. There will always be innocent blood spilled in war, but at the moment there is a war being fought, and in any war prisoners need to be interrogated. So with that understanding we have to make our interrogations count for something. Compared to other methods water-boarding is very humane. The victim walks away from it without permanent physical injury.
I'm even going to be water-boarded soon. So keep an eye out for that video.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-04-23

Look out folks, the guy calling people catty variations on their internet names is totally not trolling.

mashedtater - 2009-04-23

Cena,

"But I assure you, I truly believe in what I've said. There are times where "torture" may be used to save American lives.
When you say torture doesn't work how do you know. I'll bet if you were tortured you'd give up any information your torturers want. Just cause some liberal articles say it doesn't work doesn't make it so."

No. No. No.

a) How do we know? Because we read. A lot.

b) Confessions under torture? Like the Salem witch trials? Like the Spanish Inquisition? Because yes Cena, I'll confess to being a witch/Jew/terrorist if you are water boarding me. I'll tell you anything you want, I will lie to you to make you stop. I will tell you what you want to hear, and therein lies the problem. Just because you want to hear something doesn't make it true. And these people aren't pansies like you and me. They have been training for this and training to lie. It is in a sense spraying insecticide on bees who are immune and just pisses them off.

c) No one is disputing if it works, you jackass. We are disputing if it is a moral and right thing to do.

d) again, the reading. you should try it sometime.

zatojones - 2009-04-23

Bad guys torture. Good guys do not. Are we the good guys or the bad guys?

KnowFuture - 2009-04-26

Guys, based on the fact that cena_mark has to put up with cena_mark 24 hours a day, I'm really not sure any torture would even work on him.

Witty_Pop_Culture_Reference - 2009-04-27

Oh, hey, about the proclamation that torture saves lives and works?

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/fbi-special-agent-ali-sou fan-who-interr

That's from the guy who did the torturing. The guy who performed the waterboardings on people. He knows more about the situation than any of us.

He knows more than FOX news, I know that's hard to accept, but it might just be true, in the really real world.

dora's cough - 2009-04-22

Quit making me not hate you, Shepard Smith

millerman13 - 2009-04-22

I'm under the belief that Shep was just making of the crazy right wingers who actually believe/watch that shit. Please please please let him be making fun of those people.

Keefu - 2009-04-23

He's trying to say we shouldn't torture people, you mong

millerman13 - 2009-04-24

Perhaps a longer clip in context, dolt?

CornOnTheCabre - 2009-04-27

well alright FAG

Timothy A. Bear - 2009-04-22

Torture is effective, no kidding.

godot - 2009-04-22

Not only do we torture, not only do we start illegal wars, but we'll torture you to justify our illegal wars:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/66622.html

godot - 2009-04-22

Just saw your comment to the same effect, IW.

citrusmirakel - 2009-04-22

Hey hey hey now, Shep Smith. You promised you wouldn't allow this sort of thing to offend my ears anymore.
http://poetv.com/video.php?vid=32997

Blaise - 2009-04-23

The angry left.

Maggot Brain - 2009-04-23

It's okay, Shep. We all find out that Santa Claus isn't real sooner or later. For some kids it just takes a little longer.

Keefu - 2009-04-23

He is trying to say that it is wrong for America to torture people

joyofdiscord - 2009-04-23

Wow, it really IS fair and balanced. Good for you Shep.

imairlax - 2009-04-23

shame he couldn't work blowjob in there somewhere, too

Keefu - 2009-04-23

JUST A REMINDER THAT SHEP SMITH IS TRYING TO SAY HE IS AGAINST AMERICA TORTURING PEOPLE

IrishWhiskey - 2011-07-18

Just a reminder that we live in a country where this is noteworthy.
