They're hipsters.

They usually come from comfortable, affluent backgrounds and were raised by parents who made sure they were never significantly challenged or made to fail in any meaningful way. As such they develop into mini narcissists who don't understand the world as anything except a place that has been designed specifically to meet their every need and whim. To them every other person in the world is either a means to get the things they want or, failing that, something to be scorned and derided for the sin of not being in on the hipster's private little joke.

Basically, they are fratboys and sorority girls with better taste in music and funner clothes.

I never said that. Jesus christ, you mincing faggot. There is "unusual and interesting" and there is "obnoxiously trying too hard to show everyone how different and charmingly adorable and quirky you are." People in the latter category generally have a fucktillion crazy issues that they are trying to work out by ensuring that everyone realizes how unique and special and lovable they are. Generally, these are the kinds of issues it would behoove you to avoid, unless you LIKE crazy.
