Word has it at one of his recent shows a roadie came out and shot him up during "Heroin." More than half the audience was said to have walked out.

The Faghorn - 2009-04-30

I don't blame them. Unless he brought enough smack for everyone he shouldn't have done it.

FISTFULLofSOUL - 2009-04-30

*RIMSHoT*

The Townleybomb - 2009-04-30

Man, that was just depressing.

Not surprising though, since he's been skidding downhill ever since that "Oooky Wooky" song back in the '90s.

Herr Matthias - 2009-04-30

Huh? That's Lou Reed? Why does he sound like that? Why does his guitar have only three strings?

millerman13 - 2009-04-30

Because he never learned how to play the other 3. Also, HAHA CAPO! Learn your chords!

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-04-30

First of all, the guitar has six strings. You can SEE him strumming the higher note ones at 2:06 or so.

Second, what the hell is wrong with a capo.

Old_Zircon - 2009-04-30

A capo is OK if you're using some kind of open tuning. Kind of silly in standard.

Iakchos - 2009-04-30

:(

svraz - 2009-04-30

people get old

Old_Zircon - 2009-04-30

Neil Young didn't end up like this.

kingarthur - 2009-04-30

Okay, but can someone explain why Brent Spiner is jamming with Lou Reed?

And this sounds more like age + bad sound engineering than anything else.

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-04-30

Age, bad sound engineering, being a 1-song show for the press and not a set for an audience of enthusiastic human beings...

etc

Syd Midnight - 2009-04-30

The problem is that sometime in the 80s he started singing an eighth note behind the beat when he was live, and over the years fell further and further behind until now he's perpetually 3 or 4 measures behind with the lyrics that he with the music, and usually doesn't start singing a verse until the chorus is coming around. He doesn't do it in the studio though because a producer would yell at him.

StanleyPain - 2009-04-30

The audience shot at around 4:23 makes the clip.

rustedmutt - 2009-04-30

Oh, Lou. At least I have my vinyl to remember you by. :(

dr tits - 2009-04-30

4:10, lou reed gets star power while playing his own song on guitar hero

Goethe and ernie - 2009-04-30

Jesus fucking Christ this is utterly terrible.

Hooper_X - 2009-04-30

Lou Reed SHREDS.

zatojones - 2009-04-30

ouch

zatojones - 2009-04-30

oh wow he married Laurie Anderson recently

Hegemony Cricket - 2009-04-30

Yes, the 67 year old former super-neo-mega-Xtreme junkie playing a song way too fast for public television looks old and doesn't have the pipes he had since...wait...did he ever sing? Is anyone here actually arguing that Lou Reed has exhibited some form of vocal decline? Really?

BTW He started to pretend to shoot up during Heroin in the seventies. Emphasis on pretend. This bit of theater started about the time Lester Bangs wrote:

"In other words, Lou Reed is a completely depraved pervert and pathetic death dwarf and everything else you want to think he is. On top of that he's a liar, a wasted talent, an artist continually in flux, and a huckster selling pounds of his own flesh. A panderer . . . . Lou Reed is the guy that gave dignity and poetry and rock 'n' roll to smack, speed, homosexuality, sadomasochism, murder, misogyny, stumblebum passivity, and suicide, and then proceeded to belie all his achievements and return to the mire by turning the whole thing into a monumental bad joke with himself as the woozily insistent Henny Youngman in the center ring, mumbling punch lines that kept losing their punch."

Seems to me he's been pretty damn consistent over the last forty years of his career.

Chancho - 2009-04-30

His schtick has always been boring. I do enjoy seeing it rubbed into a live audiences face.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2009-04-30

Why did Lester have to off himself :(

Old_Zircon - 2009-04-30

He used to have an OK sense of phrasing. Now he sounds like a vlogger.

Rudy - 2009-04-30

Eh, I've seen worse. Try seeing Chuck Berry next time he comes to your town. Yes, he still "performs" even though he's 90.

EvilHomer - 2009-04-30

Maybe I'm just not hip enough to "get" Lou Reed, but this is different from any of his other performances how?

Stopheles - 2010-03-02

Wrong decade, Lou.
