In West Virginia, Tennessee, and Eastern Kentucky, these runaway truck lanes save lives every day. The trucker may come out of it worse for wear, but the other drivers may be spared if a truck's brakes fail.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-05-07

Yes, and they need to flatten the gravel and the ground under it so the trucks don't flip over so easily.

Muddy Mae Suggins - 2009-05-07

The ones in the mountains go basically straight up. I'd imagine they work better than this one.

charmlessman - 2009-05-07

That...
was...

AWESOME!!!!

Robert DeNegro - 2009-05-07

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

spikestoyiu - 2009-05-07

I've passed a million of these and always wanted to see one in action.

Johnny Roastbeef - 2009-05-07

The driver survived with minor injuries. No other motorists were hurt. No property besides the runaway truck was damaged. I'd say that falls under "prevents crashes" in my book. The consequences of a runaway truck hitting a suburb or other cars could be a lot worse than that.

simon666 - 2009-05-07

Runaway truck ramps are supposed to be loose, deep gravel to avoid accidents like this.

fermun - 2009-05-08

It clearly said it was a truck RAMP. I see no problem. That truck caught some air there, they just needed to move the landing ramp back a bit.

Charles - 2009-09-08

It's CALLED a "ramp". It SHOULD BE a ramp. This is a gravel berm in front of a wall. There are smart ways to make truck ramps, and this is not one of them.

My point? This crash was awesome.

Hay Belly - 2009-05-07

The reporter was there because the ramp is unsafe, I don't understand why that concept is hard for Johnny and splatter to understand. No one is advocating removing the safety lanes, so you two can sleep well tonight. The ramp needs to be regraded as it is deadly as is.

dr tits - 2009-05-07

deadly? who died?!

oogaBooga - 2009-05-07

Maybe you didnt see the truck do a front wheelie.

Yeah, being lucky and not dying doesnt mean its not a deadly situation. The key word: Luck.

dr tits - 2009-05-07

this is exactly how i pictured them working...
although the REAL solution would be to buy everything local so that you didn't need to transport things all over the country in large trucks in the first place.

Rape Van Winkle - 2009-05-07

Fucken trade.

I hate my high standard of living.

namtar - 2009-05-07

Are you serious?

Even if every state had all the factories to produce everything each state needed, you would still need to transport the raw materials all over the country.

Unless you plan on turning most people into subsistence farmers, your plan is flawed.

Helena Handbasket - 2009-05-07

I'm pretty sure Tits plans on harnessing a team of hampsters to use as transport mechanisms instead.

Because, think of how cute a runaway hampster ramp would look?

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-05-08

Dr. Tits has the right idea.

Fuh-Q.

Camonk - 2009-05-08

I'm curious as to why THIS video brings out the morons. I like how you can never really predict which ones will do it.

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-05-08

Really? Cena_Mark showing up to troll political, left-leaning videos? ...You never noticed the pattern?

(I only bring it up because I'm assuming you're call me a moron. If this is incorrect, disregard my sarcasm)

Charles - 2009-09-08

I dunno, Dink. Tits has a nice idea, but namtar makes an excellent point. We can't have factories or farms for everything, everywhere.

Jimmy The Headless Frog Boy - 2009-05-07

I think folks might be missing the point.

The truck ramps are a great idea. The problem is that they never bothered to smooth the gravel down - It's sitting there in big piles as if it just came out of the back of a dump truck. The unevenness is what caused the truck to flip.

A few hours with a bulldozer and this ramp would be perfect.

RockBolt - 2009-05-07

Yeah, usually they are smooth lanes of deep gravel in an incline. These were hard packed moguls

eatenmyeyes - 2009-05-07

1:25 He was carrying slinkys?

sosage - 2009-05-08

What? Did you expect us to force local people to farm slinkies instead of transporting them? You socialist!

bopeton - 2009-05-07

Imagine it: Your truck's brakes have overheated in rural PA and you take the runaway truck ramp in the hopes of saving the lives of innocent motorists.

Your truck flips crazily and you bash your head open. Your cargo spills everywhere.

You crawl out of the cab, bleeding but mostly okay.

Suddenly you notice: there's a camera man there.

oogaBooga - 2009-05-07

Yeah, its not like the cameraman could have gottan a branch or ANY random piece of debris and tried to smooth it out just a tiny bit in hopes of someone maybe not dying.

Yeah instead of being a part of the solution lets film the problem and place blame. Sure whoever put it there is to blame, but he's equally to blame for caring enough to film it yet not having the decency to try to smooth it out JUST A LITTLE.

I realize hes only one man, but jesus christ just lay down and roll around on it like a giant rolling pin.

Are you doing your part?

sliggy - 2009-05-07

No way the camera man should have tried that. For a number of reasons. First, how could he be absolutely sure that whatever he was doing wasn't making it worse? He's a camera man, not a civil engineer. Secondly, if PennDOT or whoever is maintaining this discovered that he had tampered with it, they would hold him responsible for any of the problems. Maybe even claim that he messed it up to create a story. And finally, he was only filming a few minutes. How long do you think it takes to get footage for a two minute story? If he was planning on being there for a half an hour I would be surprised. There's no way for him to prepare for the truck. Actually getting the accident on camera did way more to help the situation than going out there and trying to smooth the gravel with a stick.

Syd Midnight - 2009-05-08

Reporters aren't supposed to fix the problem themselves like they're Batman. They're supposed to alert everyone to it so the mistake doesn't get made again. What if some company is doing this halfassed job all over the state, do you just fix one and go "Hurf problem solved?" How often do you free street repairs? Besides, that's about 20 tons of gravel.

chumbucket - 2009-05-07

well, it stopped the truck, durdn't it?

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-05-07

-2 stars for douche bag panic mongering narrator.

Hasn't the Internet made shows like this obsolete and unnecessary?

Myrmidon - 2009-05-08

-1 for Narration.

Ersatz - 2009-05-08

Not good enough, but you have completed this jump before.

detc - 2009-10-23

Yeah. That's pretty much what I thought. He did pretty well though, came up a little short but other than that it was decent.
