Interesting, because I don't think I've ever seen anyone draw a picture by drawing the hair, then painstakingly filling in the hair, then drawing the face.

-2 stars for being boring, and also not having the obvious music.

zatojones - 2009-05-08

nothing says Springsteen like a shitty remix of a Depeche Mode song

kennydra - 2009-05-08

It seems like in a lot of these type of videos the people have really weird techniques. Obviously self taught and just, I dunno, drew this same drawing so many times over that it actually comes out decent looking.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-05-08

There's a possibility that the drawing was done beforehand in non-photo blue, which doesn't show up on some cameras (I met a cartoonist who admitted to using that technique for an appearance on a PBS "news roundtable" show where the camera would show him drawing as a bumper between segments).

It would explain a "technique" that doesn't use a sketchy beginning to establish proportion and features before inking.

I dunno. Non-Repro blue isn't wizard ink. I've shot the prisma blues on some shitty DV and been able to see it fine at the range that the sketch is for most of the video. Maybe it was washed out in post.

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-08

Everyone kind of has their own thing I guess. It's oddly telling, like a guy who only really can draw breasts. Only less entertainingly lecherous, so -1 star.

sosage - 2009-05-08

Non-photo blue is mostly bullshit now days. It once did have the function of not showing up on cameras and photocopiers, but it most definitely shows up on 99.9% of the equipment we use today. My illustration/animation teachers would get a little pissed off about the subject, mostly about art stores still trying to swindle students into buying this "magic blue pencil that all the pro's use, so you should really be using it to" pencils that aren't magic and don't do jack shit.

With that said, drawing in blue still has it's advantages (or in any noticeable color that doesn't represent your final line work). I also have never seen anyone start a drawing at the hair...maybe the artist sketched the picture in with some extremely light led and a very light hand.

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-08

I can definitely buy the idea of a light pencil sketch not showing up on camera.

Meatsack Jones - 2009-05-08

Agreed. In the times of stat cameras, blue pencil had it's place. Now, it's a way for people not up with the times, to hold mystical mumbo sans the jumbo over new artists.

Dicknuts - 2009-05-08

Or after scanning it into photoshop yanking the cyan channel. Works a charm.

brainbroke - 2009-05-08

Really uneven drawing. Also boring to watch.

Samisyosam - 2009-05-08

What the fuck did he do to his nose?

citrusmirakel - 2009-05-08

It's really not at all surprising that someone named "Alyson" is a crappy illustrator.

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-09

I have to give her metaphysical kudos for filling in huge swatches of black with a tiny marker when she could just scan the goddamn thing and flood fill it in two seconds. Psh, people and their analog arting.

manfred - 2009-05-08

audio and video both suck

memedumpster - 2009-05-08

I was going to three star this for the music, but at 2:40 I started pretending I was seeing the picture right side up, which made it look like some kind of bearded alien with a third eye growth on its forehead, which made the song a little more tolerable.

Frank Rizzo - 2009-05-08

"...do you like to sketch? Draw? Or doodle?"

8bitwintermute - 2009-05-09

given the really graphic black & white style, the shading is a bit of a detraction.

La Loco - 2009-05-09

Gey.
