Give this to me.

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-09

Are we playing this? Are we playing this right now? We'll see how much the actual game matches up, but yeah, wow.

It could well turn out to be the game that other bit should have been. The one with the... couriers and stuff...

Xenocide - 2009-05-09

Mirror's Edge? Yeah, that was like this thing's aborted retard sister.

Whitewater5 - 2009-05-09

looks cool, but bullshit, that is not gameplay. also, does every videogame have to incorporate parkour nowadays?

yourmother - 2009-05-09

Yes, yes, and yes.

Vaidency - 2009-05-09

If that is gameplay, it looks kind of obnoxious for the player. The camera doesn't give a very good field of view for the objects he's leaping to (completely blind jump at 0:32), so you probably have to find your way through areas like that through trial and error.

SolRo - 2009-05-09

If it's real gameplay, it was a scripted run. A human would have to play that route dozens of times to get it down that flawlessly.

You playing it; 46 min. to figure out just where the hell to go while fighting endlessly respawning enemies (or worse, killing all the enemies and spending 30 mins looking for the objective)

sosage - 2009-05-09

Everything Vaid said. I mean...yay...nice chunk of PR candy, but put a controller in my fucking hands and let me control the character or it's just fluff. If it does play exactly like that...then this looks like a crappy game that is going to require hours of doing the same stupid back alley over and over again until I figure out, "Oh...I was supposed to blind jump to that ledge on the left?"

My time as a member of the press in this industry has made me very unreceptive to these displays of, most-likely, fakery.

dancingshadow - 2009-05-09

It doesn't look that much more complicated than Pop or Asasins creed. The camera moves quick but it shows the jump points while the climbing animation is going on. Usually in games like this yer hammering the button 4 or 5 times in advance of the move anyway.

Seattle - 2009-05-09

We've come a long way from id Tech 1...

baleen - 2009-05-09

Seattle!

Chalkdust - 2009-05-09

gimme gimme gimme

Goethe and ernie - 2009-05-09

Reserving judgement because 1. the first game was full of anthropomorphic animals and 2. Assassin's Creed looks this good on video too

wtf japan - 2009-05-12

The first game was fucking awesome, and the bipedal animals didn't bother me. Normally they would, but for some reason they seemed kind of hard to rule 34, not that that's ever stopped anyone.

Still, only game on 360 that's really made me want to purchase the system.

Grace Mugabe - 2009-05-09

There is no way on Earth that the actual game will look like this.

Aelric - 2009-05-09

I think that the way this goes is that it's real in game engine graphics, but no chance in hell this is something you control unless it's a quick time event.

Also, realistic graphic. I don't know if I like the idea. The first one had cartoony charm.

Regardless, I'm gonna play it. The first was good enough to warrant a looksee at this one.

Chalkdust - 2009-05-09

I dunno, I can envision a control scheme as it's playing... maybe left and right triggers to grab onto corners or rotate when hitting a wall. I'd imagine it's standard FPS controls in a third-person camera, with some Prince of Persia-esque context sensitivity for stuff like the wall jumping and pole climbing.

Binro the Heretic - 2009-05-09

HEY! EVERYTHING IS BROWN OR GRAY! THAT MAKES IT REALISTIC AND GRITTY!

Where are the hovercrafts? Where are the goofy robots? Where are the alien furries? Where are the bright colors and silliness? They've cut out all the stuff that gave the original game its charm and character to make it look and feel just like every other God-damned game on the market right now.

Seriously, why make a game like this part of the "Beyond Good & Evil" franchise? Just make up a new set of characters & storylines.

Desidiosus - 2009-05-09

Did you just copy and paste one of your criticisms of Fallout 3?

Honest Abe - 2009-05-09

oh, binro

baleen - 2009-05-09

I agree with Binro on this one.

Computer games should be a festive thing. You should make your character in the game and he or she should just scream "I'm ready for the fiesta!" I would have liked to play this game more if the helicopter was maybe a pastel pink. More pastels in general, especially around the mosque structure. I also don't really approve of the brief depictions of Asians. Also, where are the radios? I want to be able to INTERACT with the game world by turning on songs (I envision like, if I were in Afghanistan I could play music from there) or playing games within the games, like cup stacking. Also it would be cool if you didn't always have to hurt the guys with guns, maybe if you could open a dialog box with them and maybe talk them out of shooting you? Just an idea.

GiantAtomicFreak - 2009-05-09

I am deactivating my cynicism unit for all things Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Or maybe this is a QTE with the prompts turned off. Ack! No! bad! Think happy thoughts!

spencer - 2009-05-09

"Bravo, Yade."

RoyCastle - 2009-05-09

I found a description of the gameplay: "BGaE2 uses the revolutionary new gameplay system called 'smart-response interaction.' Here's how it works, you press up on the control stick to make the character run through the world, and when obstacles present themselves your character will automatically perform the appropriate response! Need to swing around a corner and pop through a door to avoid the guys with guns? No need to think about it, just keep holding that control stick in the forward direction and watch the beautifully rendered acrobatics! Need to swing through a ventilation duct and knock out some bad guys when you land? Don't forget to keep holding up on that control stick! Us trendsetters at Ubisoft have decided that you gamers have spent far too much time having to actually think about what your video game heroes should do and are now ready for the shallow feeling of accomplishment accompanied by what basically amounts to a glorified movie."

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-09

Don't be a damn fool.

If the challenge is taken out of navigating the world it's simply the developer's job to put challenge somewhere else. You might as well be complaining that a game's too easy because your guy automatically climbs stairs. Pushing up on the control stick ain't gonna beat the damn game, it probably won't jump for you or fight for you, it'll probably just navigate obstacles like hopping over a table or sliding under a low hanging wall or whatever.

Yes, I'm speculating too but my speculations aren't stupid like yours.

Squidmojo - 2009-05-09

It's beautiful, but there is no way in hell that is gameplay footage. Which is probably why it's a "leak."

halon - 2009-05-09

Man, I don't know. BGaE was one of my favorite games ever, but I really dug the old style. I've got to say, I'm a little sad to see it go. I also hope the entire game isn't parkour, because I have already played prince of persia, tomb raider, and assassins creed.

lordpotato - 2009-05-09

I played this game when it was called Mirror's Edge

IrishWhiskey - 2009-05-09

Mirror's Edge was a game with potential as great as its flaws. If they can fix those mistakes, vary up the gameplay, and bring some of that BG&E story and humor, it would be a hell of a game.

-1 because the camera doesn't inspire confidence, and its not a real look at gameplay yet.

lordpotato - 2009-05-09

Concur.

FABIO - 2009-05-09

The BG&E charm and humor are dead. The very first trailer was disgusting Uncle Pey'j snorting dozens of wasps up his nose to eat them.

Now we get Assassin's Creed: Gaza edition and the whole thing has the "I need to take a shower" Duke Nukem Forever vibe.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-05-09

So the main character's real ninja power is not getting that idiotic sword caught in doorways?

Hooker - 2009-05-09

I'm of the opinion that Beyond Good & Evil was a great game and didn't need to be edgy'ed up.

wtf japan - 2009-05-12

That game was kind of edgy, actually. Shit got pretty real in some parts, if I'm not mistaken.

GiantAtomicFreak - 2009-05-09

PS. Am I the only one who played the BG&E that was about rampant government corruption, propaganda and displaced orphans and that featured a cinematic rooftop foot chase about half way through?

Because you wouldn't think so from all the people whinging about the grittiness and cinematic rooftop chases in this video.

Hooker - 2009-05-09

Well, obviously I have no complaints abuot the gratitutious level of displaced orphans in this video.

GiantAtomicFreak - 2009-05-09

I'm just saying, BG&E was already reasonably dingy as far as video game plots go and there's nothing in this video that says there defiantly won't be any Rastafarian rhinos.

FABIO - 2009-05-09

The plot contrasted with the colorful French cartoon art style, which made the creepy parts creepier through context.

This looks like the result of either something missing the whole point, or a genius marketing exec deciding to pull a Warrior Within.

fluffy - 2009-05-09

I really hope this game doesn't have any of the obnoxious "we're not sure what kind of game this is so let's put in everything" elements of the first one. I loved the first one's exploration/platformer/action parts, got a bit annoyed at the badly-done stealth parts, and just gave up on it when it turned into a shitty underground hover-racing game.

mcsancherson - 2009-05-10

not gameplay

Squeamish - 2009-05-10
