You know what's a better show than Dr. Who? Every show ever.

This was so boring, I'd rather have watched a Star Trek clip.

Oh, man, you sure showed those dweebs. You're defiantly going to be asked to sit at the cool table at lunch tomorrow.

Boring, poorly written, predictable, and expects the audience accept ridiculous plot elements.

I watched two or three episodes of the more recent iteration. In the second or third episode, on a space station, a sabotaging spider-sized robot presses a single button on the keyboard on the desk of some diplomat. This single button removes any and all protection from the elements outside the space station, killing the diplomat. Meaning, he was, at any time, a coffee spill or a typo away from instantly killing himself.

There were several examples more in the episodes I saw; That was just the one that sprang to mind. The writing can be clever at times, but that doesn't keep it from drowning in poor storytelling and often-detestable characters.

For a show that so many nerds gobble up, it certainly is ridiculously stupid.

I know! Don't these writers know entertainment is serious business on the internets!

Camonk has single handedly crushed all of Doctor Who fandom in one foul blow of his clenched fist.

Desidiosus - 2009-05-25

Wait, there's bad storytelling in TV shows? Oh noes!

I guess they felt in the spider killing thing they could distract people from the logical lapses with special effects. The old series didn't have that luxury, but there were enough good stories in the mid-70s they didn't really need to.

phalsebob - 2009-05-25

Pfff. Everyone knows Dr. Who could take out the Enterprise.

Comeuppance - 2009-05-25

Now, of course, those statements I made only apply to the third most recent doctor - The series that started out with the clothing warehouse employee as the doctor's "plus one."

Does it get better as the series goes on, or is it pretty consistent throughout the remaining episodes? I stopped at the third or fourth for the aforementioned reasons.

Speaking of special effects, those are pretty dodgy, so it doesn't exactly help distract.

During the Tom Baker years Dr. Who reached it's pinnacle as the writers of the show created some of the most spectacular stories of the era. One of those writers was Douglas Adams of "Hitchhiker's Guild to the Galaxy" fame. Between writing of his caliber and Tom Bakers hamming it up, it made for wonderful entertainment.

You people realize you're arguing over a children's show, right?

ztc - 2009-05-26

Comeuppance - it's pretty consistently annoying tosh with maybe 3 really brilliant episodes per season.

"....and then they built Prime computers!"

The scarf deserves an equal share in the acting credit.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-05-25

But who the hell were the scarf and him talking to?

Xenocide - 2009-05-26

Each other.

You should hear what the scarf was saying. It was very romantic.

papa_november - 2009-05-25

This same speech is repeated five times an episode now. Badly.
