wow he sounds out of shape. still awesome presentation.

rapsnacks - 2009-05-28

Just sounds? He's like a pregnant biker.

Clearly there was a lot more he wanted to expand upon but somehow he made 20 minutes feel like 5.

dueserpenti - 2009-05-28

I can never escape the impression that Zimbardo has spent all these years trying to atone for the Stanford Prison Experiment. Still, good on him.

yeahjim - 2009-05-28

Definitely agree with you. But isn't that part of the beauty of it? We're all complicit in evil to varying degrees. Isn't it nice to see someone who is trying to find a way out of this mess? Someone who makes a goddamn lick of rational sense?

Bort - 2009-06-06

What I like about Zimbardo is that he provides insight to real-world questions -- granted he's not able to come up with universal explanations for everything (and I'd be skeptical if he claimed to), but he's good for saying "Hey guys, here's a phenomenon that probably goes a long way to explaining how [fill in the blanks]". The guy may feel perpetually bad about the Stanford Prison Experiment, but if he keeps bringing it up, it's mostly because of exactly how revealing it was.

I'm a little troubled by how it seems our emotions are, in certain situations, socially-driven rather than individually-driven. It's probably healthy to be troubled -- if there's a 65% chance I'd electrocute the poor sap in the next room, I'm probably better off recognizing the possibility rather than being blindsided by it.

We're all accessories to evil here at poeTV.

voodoo_pork - 2009-05-28

This ain't the Portal of Goodness.

Hooper_X - 2009-05-28

When I talk about the Stanford Prison Experiment in class, I go out of my way to mention how much Phil Zimbardo totally looks like Satan.

Valkor - 2009-05-28

Pff, he is promoting white knight syndrome. Get with the system and let the people around you commit evil for your own good.

Kidding, this is awesome. Just reminds me of a story on POE where a stranger saved a women from being burned to death and half of the users who posted on it complained that he was an asshole for it.

dueserpenti - 2009-05-28

That was probably the saddest thread we ever had, all the folks who were like, "only sad, pathetic losers try to help people.'' From posters who were otherwise OK. It was strange and heartbreaking to see that so many people had given up on their capacity to do good.

I demand a link to this thread immediately. Then a GMod reenactment.

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-28

I spent many years on PoE before I registered chasing intruiging-looking videos and getting frustrated because they were all down.

Also a true story.

Konversekid - 2009-05-28

-2 because I'm a Nietzschean.
