Christian Decency in action.

I wonder how voluntary that work was? Probably not very. Not a very proud moment in American history, but I imagine it could've been worse.

I've always had a problem with that statement.
Things can always be worse.
It's like saying "You know, I'm not really proud of forcing you to watch me rape your mother and slit the throat of your little brother, but it could've been worse..."
It's like you're supposed to be thankful.

Ok, well....it sucked and it should have been better. Or rather it should have not happened at all. Usually when a group of people is forcefully relocated, it ends up a whole lot shittier. The U.S. traditionally has had a bad record regarding those things. Still, it would not be permissible to allow this to happen again, regardless of the circumstances.

The Hunt internment camp in Minidoka county, Idaho, was moved to the Idaho Farm and Ranch Museum north of Twin Falls a while back, near where I grew up. When I was a kid, I fulfilled 4-H community service requirements by cleaning these old buildings.

For mass-produced shacks, they're pretty high quality. Put them in the Idaho desert though, and you've got some pretty fucking miserable living conditions.

I love that the narrator explains the looks of nervous fear on the new arrivals face as curiousity, and explains away being moved to the desert as a wonderful oppourtunity. Former businessmen being forced to sell their assets and labor in sugarbeet fields is not really America's proudest moment.

That's just evil.
