The speedometer was taunting them. Why would it say 160 if you weren't going to go that fast?

theSnake - 2009-06-04
All that and no money shot of teenage boys trapped and groaning in burning wreckage?
Sputum - 2009-06-04
Hey Kevin, your check engine light is on.

Looks and sounds fake.
halon - 2009-06-04 That's because you don't know what you're talking about.

AgentOrange - 2009-06-04 I'm shocked they weren't all completely obliterated.
Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-06-04 It still looks and feels fake even if it's real - obnoxious teens with obnoxious music and obnoxious driving and no payoff?
The crash they speak of is probably a series of steering over corrections that ended with a low speed slide on some grass, not a tinsel creating impact.

This put my heart in my throat, for some reason. My heart goes out to the families....

Yeah, you don't really want to get anywhere near the brakes when you're going that fast. I'll bet he didn't have properly rated tires, either.
halon - 2009-06-04 If it were a properly maintained car it wouldn't have the check engine light permanently on. I would bet that the tires have been replaced at least once, and that they were replaced with cheap michelins or something.
Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-06-04 That car comes with tires rated for its 155mph limiter.
Now, about the apparent lack of maintenance and driver skills...
TeenerTot - 2009-06-04 Check engine light means nothing. My audi's check engine light has been on for a few months. It goes off for every little thing.
halon - 2009-06-04 BBBS, do you actually read comments before you hit post? Genuinely curious here.
TeenerTot: Take your car to a mechanic. What is wrong with you?
halon - 2009-06-04 Yeah, electronics reliability in a neon seems like a fair comparison to the same in a ,000 sports car. Not to get all gooey over audi since they've started kind of sucking in the last few years (fuck you, VW), but generally in cars like this the "check engine" light actually means something.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-06-04
Impertinent little shits.
halon - 2009-06-04
OH, and another fun fact:
pretty much every German car (including the s4) is electronically limited at 155mph (by speedo reading, not actual speed--they were likley going 10%-15% slower than reported), so they would never have been able to hit a reported 160 even if they didn't crash.
Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-06-04 Nooo, by their real speed, bro!
I don't know if their speedo was accurate at the top, but near the bottom they're all +10%. I would assume they were doing approximately -10% of the indicated, though.
