I had the pleasure of spending last winter in the city you call home after an over ten year hiatus from said city in which I grew up. Since leaving your fair town I've spent significant time in Halifax, North Florida and Toronto, all of which are heavily populated by attractive women (especially Halifax, with it's three universities). The biggest revelation I took with me from staying at your fair city is just how fugly the women there are... why so many goths? seriously, that shit died out in the '90s. To be fair, even if a fetus isn't realized yet, you are still destroying a potential life and it can very easily be considered murder. And murder to prevent further murder is pretty easily justifiable.

But by that same logic so could every period a woman has. You have to draw a line and third trimester seems to be a fair line.

Unfortunately all that time and energy they spend is really pretty worthless and has accomplished nothing since Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile there are millions of suffering individuals in the world who could be living better lives if that energy were directed towards their needs.

And of course, if they REALLY gave a shit about preventing abortions, there's one very simple thing they could do: support efforts at teaching birth control. They could do this, but they won't, because at heart they have very little concern for the well-being of the unborn. Hell, I think a good number of them actually like the fact that immoral behavior (i.e. sex) comes with its own inherent punishment (i.e. an 18 year sentence of raising a child), and their real objection to abortion is that it lets sinners escape punishment.

Re: the segment of the American right that is pro-life. I don't believe they're anti-woman, so much as anti-sin (the Puritanical concept of sin, not the kind that Jesus was focused on such as greed). It's really just an unfortunate coincidence that, for every man and woman who conceive a child through Godless immorality, it's almost always the woman who gets pregnant. If they could, they'd hold shotgun weddings to make sure that both parties pay the price for sinning, locked in a loveless sham marriage for pro-lifers to point to as an example of the wages of sin; an "abominable fancy" to be enjoyed here on earth.

Seems like a meaningless distinction (anti-woman vs. anti-sin), but if you're going to get to the heart of what the hell is wrong with pro-lifers, it doesn't hurt to be exacting. I will concede that misogyny factors into other positions you'll find with the American right, I just don't think it explains why, for example, they're so opposed to teaching people how to have sex without unwanted pregnancies. They want to make sure that sex doesn't take place without potentially life-shattering consequences; nice bunch of people.
