Something something "cosmic fugue."

simon666 - 2009-06-16

Oh, the description. And I also think Hugo Weaving got his vocal intonation for Agent Smith in the Matrix from Sagan.

And 5 stars rising for the house of Jupiter.

It's unfortunate that his demeanor is so easy to parody, because most people only remember him for his weird and goofy cadence and not for anything he actually said.

VoilaIntruder - 2009-06-16

Well, to put a positive spin on it, some people not normally into researching the universe remember some of the information he spoke about because of his goofy voice. Even if they are just repeating it as parody.

Probably not, though.

Horoscopology

joyofdiscord - 2009-06-16

Horoscopes contradictory? Astrological predictions not accurate? I am shocked!

Sagan seems to miss the real point of astrology in today's culture--it provides fodder for emotionally stimulating fluff talk with some chick about your signs or the horoscope in the morning paper, and it's a great idiot detector when you run across someone taking it seriously.

cognitivedissonance - 2009-06-16

I prefer a world where eccentrics and misfits live, so I must defend astrology's existence by pointing out how much less interesting the world would be without it.

Ersatz - 2009-06-16

Of course the horoscopes disagreed, the NY Daily News' is always wrong.

Johnny Roastbeef - 2009-06-16

I honestly can't understand how someone who makes such ridiculous implications can be regarded as the champion of reason.

"The word disaster MEANS that we take superstition seriously!"

Well posited.
