This was really cool. I never knew there was such a big difference in dice made by different people.

BRB throwing away all my monopoly dice.

kennydra - 2009-07-09

Welp, I'm sold. I have no need for d20's at all in my life, but I want to buy this man's dice just to support his awesome salesmanship, passion, and sense of humor. In the hopper I said to myself "no way am I gonna watch ten minutes of a video about freakin' dice", but I did, and I watched the second ten minutes too.

hornung - 2009-07-09

I watched the whole thing.
20 minutes is a pretty long and involved sales pitch for something that costs 60 cents.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-07-09

I can't believe I watched the whole thing.

dancingshadow - 2009-07-09

Bonus magic and comedy in the last minute.

CharlesSmith - 2009-07-09

I have dice made by this guy (Didn't know that's what they were, they just came in the original D&D box), and they really are better than normal polys. The hard angles really make them roll better, they're less likely to just keep rolling right off the table.

But man, make an unmodified 20 on a saving throw or die? Dude's DM is a jerk.

Pookles - 2009-07-09

I would seek out his dice were I to need an equal, random distribution of numbers 1-20.

I hope that future generations of D&D players seek out his dice as musicians seek a Stradivarius.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-07-09

My job often includes the task of generating random variables across certain intervals. I use RAND function in excel. Future generations of D&D players should learn this valuable skill.

zatojones - 2009-07-09

the random numbers generated by Excel are not actually truly random

Millard - 2009-07-09

This guy seems likable but unless I am way wrong the singular of "dice" is "die".

oddeye - 2009-07-09

You are correct but anyone who calls it "die" is asking to be smacked.

Testicles of Doom - 2009-07-09

It really does bother me, because someone in his field really shoud say "die".

But 5 for making me watch a guy talk about dice for 20 minutes. I feel the need to buy a shitload of dice from him even though I have no use for them.

memedumpster - 2009-07-09

In D&D, "die" means something more important.

That being said, all my dice suck, and I feel ashamed to have put the lives of so many fictional characters in the hands of a poorly made random system. I may as well have used a... computer.

Toenails - 2009-07-09

I have literally seen a game derailed for over 20 minutes because of this very topic.

I've always wondered if Wargamers or CCRPGers ever waste as much time debating inane details as the table-top RPG community.

oogaBooga - 2009-07-09

I have a free dice program on my iPod touch.

That being said, I am still completely enthralled.

Bored - 2009-07-09

I was at GenCon for that year and talked to the man. Definitely an old school gem. It's a shame I spent most of my time at GenCon hung over, but I did at least get a chance to visit Mr. Zocchi.

Hooker - 2009-07-09

Just echoing the "can't believe I watched the whole thing" sentiment. This was really interesting despite my non-interest in dice.

Toenails - 2009-07-09

That is very interesting, and I'm glad he's so enthusiastic about it.

But I don't think he's aware that gamers don't actually want dice that give a truly random outcome.

Basically, he hit the nail on the head when he remarked that the player will go to that one die he believes will give him a high roll. Hell, it was so pronounced that there were gamers who were barred from using their "dirty cheating" dice.

Frankly, if it was up to me, I'd spend more money on finding an oblong d20 that gave great rolls than just buying one or two of his quality dice.

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-10

D20 are really easy to shave, so you could get a pair of opaque ones and use one for saves and one for hits, until people catch on. Ahaha.

AgentOrange - 2009-07-14

Why the hell would you cheat at dnd? Also, those die that roll high, the bias corresponds to a low roll as well. Your die that throws 20's, will throw as many 1's.

Simian Pride - 2012-09-03

I have never used a die with more than six sides, yet I feel that my life will never be complete unless I buy dice from this man.
