Bruno had some good segments, but Borat was truly irritating. Annoying people with a weird accent makes people racist by default? When he enters that antique shop and starts messing the whole place i didn't think it was funny, more like "damn, what an asshole".

I can relate to that, because there were a lot of parts of Borat which were too similar to the Tom Green Show. However, there's plenty of material in both movies that are worth paying attention to. One scene in Borat that comes to mind is the cowboy-hat-wearing republican at the rodeo (i think) telling him he needed to shave his mustache because he looked like a Muslim. That's just a small example but it really sticks with me.

Have you heard Cohen talk about how his people set up for interviews like this? They lead them to believe a legit person is doing it, he shows up in character as part of the set crew and normally with a nicely dressed decoy who is assumed to be the interviewer, and at the last minute he jumps in the chair and introduces himself.

no i havent heard him talk about how he sets this up. Id be interested to see what elaborate measures he goes through for 5 minutes of GOTCHYA filming.
