Keep in mind he is there campaigning against any government sponsored adjustments to the energy sector that would harm the black community, including the Kyoto Protocol...

mashedtater - 2009-07-18

what sort of adjustments do they want to make?

baleen - 2009-07-18

I'm trying to figure out what his motivation is.
I'm thinking he's probably an industry shill of some kind.

Bort - 2009-07-18

Agreed -- he probably went into this with an intention to derail any meaningful sort of question-and-answer. Through uppitiness.

Any Chamber of Commerce is pro-business, of the sort that sees any taxes, regulations, or restrictions as anti-business.

To provide an example of why the Black Chamber of Commerce would be opposed to the Kyoto Protocol &c., a barbecue joint could be assessed a carbon fee for the pollution generated by its old, reliable smoker. (This could be offset by proposed legislation for a cap-and-trade system of making neighborhoods smell delicious, but that bill has failed to pick up a co-sponsor.)

Additionally, France snuck a clause into the Kyoto Protocol assessing a fee for utterances of, "Laws a-Mercy, Miss Ella! It's powerful hot out here today! You ever seen a day so warm as this'n?"

Xenocide - 2009-07-18

"That is condenscending! I'm the national black chamber of commerce!"

He is? I think that counts as a superpower. Let's dash off some 60's Stan Lee copy just to be sure:

COULD IT BE?!? Has Washington finally been brought to its knees by the malevolent menace of capricious carbon caps? Hold on tight, true believers, because you'll want to catch all the ballistic bombast when that sensational senator, battling Boxer, berates...

"RACEBATOR, THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THAT WALKS LIKE A MAN!"

plus: Maybe Hawkeye shows up or something!

What I'm enjoying about this the most is that white conservatives, ever happy to come to the table to play race poker, are championing this guy. They are acting like PC college campus freshman, either to say "Now you know how it feels!" or "Ha! See, got you, now you're racist too!"

The idea that a woman who has been continually endorsed by African American and minority rights organizations throughout her career is a racist is absurd, and this guy has some serious issues.

I think whites need to stop using the word "diversity", because we are just so hilariously bad at applying it in proper context.

It's pretty hard to believe a NAACP resolution would have any place in an energy policy discussion, especially if the panelist wasn't black. I'm waiting for her to bring up a GLAD resolution to a cross-dressing business advocate in the next meeting.

Also, if this guy is so pissed at being pigeon-holed on the basis of the color of his skin, then he needs to find a job in an organization whose name doesn't refer to the color of his skin.

"if this guy is so pissed at being pigeon-holed on the basis of the color of his skin, then he needs to find a job in an organization whose name doesn't refer to the color of his skin."

Exactly.
