There's an old comedian's joke that starts the same way, and then goes on to describe in horrific detail the most disgusting acts the teller can think of being performed by the family in the joke, at which point the booking agent asks "And just what do you call yourselves?" to which the head of the family replies "The Aristocrats!"
So, obviously, without familiarity with the joke (and the inherent expectations) the laugh-points are lost.
I like what was done with the joke structurally, it was a unique change, however, the joke now is no more than a new version of the worthless "What do you call a _minority/gender here_ astronaut? Racial/bigoted Slur!"
Hmm. I'll wait to star until I hear Chris Rock tell this version.
