I think assuming the old cartoons had any real value or merit to them besides nostalgia for 20 somethings is the real folly here.

Also, not that well done.

Looks like someone is afflicted with "the old" (or is too young to appreciate quality television programming).

I can kind of understand the outrage over Transformers 2 because rather than a child-like, escapist fantasy, it was turned into some cynical, audience-hating piece of pop-culture garbage with weird, offensive overtones.

But, GI Joe was already a cartoon-ish idea at it's very core and you have people making it (Stephen Sommers and crew) who have already established a track record for making ridiculous, over-the-top, escapist movies. What were people expecting? It's obvious this was made in that spirit, so even assuming it's a bad movie, I don't understand the dim, nerd fandom bullshit over this movie. I watched GI Joe as a kid, I had the comics, I had the toys, and I went to the see the animated movie (shit as it was) when it came out, and I certainly have no pretentions that it was anything more than crap for kids meant to sell toys. You wouldn't believe some of the videos on YouTube over this. People getting red-faced and out of breath ranting about how this is such a violation of this and that. Jesus people, get some perspective.

No offense, but I find it odd that you wrote such a long comment about nerds needing some perspective

I voted this up so I could take a huge dump on it.

I guess it gets one star because there's a slight chance "respect for the source material" was meant sarcastically.

But I'm still grateful you uploaded those Hamlet cigar ads :)
