Way to no-sell the German, though.

Yay for the stiffness. Nay for the lack of in-ring storytelling through the use of subtlety, craft, and fight psychology.

Story lines? No thanks. I enjoy comedy matches in the vein of Chikara, Hustle and DDT, but when i want to see a good match i want to see exactly that. No fillers or any other stuff, just good workers doing their thing.

Cena_mark - 2009-08-10

He doesn't mean story lines, by in ring story telling he means the ability to make your match a story in and of its self. Otherwise the match would just be a bunch of random moves. Japanese wrestling is very spotty and lacks the well paced build up delivered by guys like Bret Hart, Ric Flair, and John Cena.

twinkieafternoon - 2009-08-10

I was just joking a little, and I refuse to let Cena Mark speak for me, though I appreciate his effort.

However, yeah, I mean stories in the ring, not stories out of the ring (which should be kept simple and centered around the idea of wrestling as sport). I know the joshi's have an excellent work rate (my favorite's Apple Miyuki, for the record), but selling and pacing yourself can't be forgotten.

Also, DDT rules.

"Japanese wrestling is very spotty and lacks the well paced build up..."

This is a very sweeping generalization. All-Japan for the men, and AJW for the women, were very much about ring psychology and furthering the storylines between wrestlers throughout the late 80's to mid-to-late 90's.

I can't resist a puro fagdance, so here goes:

No-selling one move doesn't mean there is no storytelling or psychology in the match. That's retarded.

Riskbreaker - 2009-08-10

What Hooker said, but i do understand what you're saying Twinkie.

Screwtape - 2009-08-10

Cena_Mark: wrestling opinions as intelligent as his political ones.

That's really not so much a stiff shining wizard as it is one girl kneeing the other in the head as hard as she can. I realize that one describes the other, but this clip if anything else demonstrates the line between the two.

Hooker - 2009-08-10

No, it had the contrived one-person-down-on-one-knee-so-the-other-person-can-step-up spot, so it fulfills the criteria for a shining wizard completely.

SharoKham - 2009-08-10

It's straight on, though. I'll raise the nerd in here by saying it looks closer to a Shining Black.

JSP - 2009-08-21

I don't mean that I am quibbling over form, I mean that there is a distinction between, for example, "brainbuster" and "dropping some dude on his head," and we are looking at it.

CornOnTheCabre - 2009-09-25

I see your point, but pro wrestling is above all an artform that emphasizes suffering, and unless the performer was totally uncomfortable with this spot, I'm calling this on the side of face opus.

Triggerbaby - 2009-08-10

One of the more interesting euphemisms for boner that I've heard.

socialist_hentai - 2009-08-10

this!

mcsancherson - 2009-08-11
