Aesthetically, I fucking adore certain elements of black / death metal: the double bass drums, the subterranean vocals, the focus on atmosphere before tonality etc. Other elements - stupid lyrics, machismo, corpsepaint, fans - I hate so hard it hurts. I've listened to tonnes of melodic black metal and I've never really been impressed with the balancing act of pushing SUPER RAW DEATHFUCK subculture bullshit onto the audience while laying down music that sounds like Van Halen raping Linkin Park. I've really wanted someone to succeed at some form of black metal fusion but very few really have.
Moss has managed to find that middle-ground. 5 stars for them, and I'm off to buy their album.
