More American civilians were murdered by foreign extremists when Bush and Cheney were in charge than under any other administration for the last hundred years and the legacy of success they lay claim to is how they kept us safe?

Well, he DID keep us safe, except for the whole 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and Iraq War things. And numerous other things.

Let me explain some of the rage (as I see it anyways).
"Torture" is morally disgusting to enlightened people.
And that is why "torture" is also illegal under international law. So it's immoral (I thought you knew all about morals), and illegal. Already a double whammy for people who choose to defend its use. (I won't go into the debate here about how it doesn't even produce the effects the torturers claim it does.)

So when we see a guy who believes he should be able to do something immoral and illegal, just because he says he can, it really offends those of us who believe in the American values of integrity and justice.

See, in America there (ideally by the law) is no class system. Nobody here is above the law. So when someone claims they are, and for something like double-whammy torture, it's like a TRIPLE whammy. And if we can't even look into maybe applying a little justice to something like that, what does it say about us?
