I remember watching this episode as a kid when I both regularly watched Reading Rainbow and Star Trek TNG.

Just started the video but I already remember the part about the teleporter effect being glitter in a glass of water and the ship model having to sit upside down.

Hey Louis. Thanks. Again.

I was old enough to have seen "Roots" when it first came on and it was weird seeing Kunta Kinte doing a happy kids show.

Stand aside.

can we this up to this?

Witty_Pop_Culture_Reference - 2009-09-01

In case you don't know, Reading Rainbow doesn't have the money to continue... they have just anounced it will be ending and (unless syndicated- which it may not be, I don't have all the details yet) there are numerous petitions and online fundraisers to help keep it on the air. I'm sure you can check out your favorite news site or google 'save reading rainbow' if you want to help.

It really is one of the few shows that are worth it.

Smellvin - 2009-09-01

Children's shows only need about three seasons or so anyway. By that time, they can just go back to the beginning of the series and repeat since all the kids who watched it will have outgrown it by then.

Louis Armstrong - 2009-09-01

But that is because most of them have retarded characters that at age four most don't even bother to watch anymore. This is not rose colored lenses that give me this perspective, but this one is worth saving. Watch this if you haven't. I challenge you to not be entertained at all by this high quality informative television as an adult.

Rum Revenge - 2009-09-01

Smellvin: They will never stop publishing books in one form or another. Therefore, there will always be a need for Reading Rainbow.

mashedtater - 2009-09-01

as a (hopefully) future sexy librarian, i second witty's motion!

we should save reading rainbow. i bet we could do it.

Camonk - 2009-09-01

This show is so broke it can't continue.

Meanwhile Glen Beck continues unabated.

Kids can read the O'Reilly Factor for kids.

This country is nearly hopelessly backwards forever.

I actually didn't like ST:TNG until this Reading Rainbow happened.

Herr Matthias - 2009-09-01

Geordi was "the ship's navigator"? Way to forget who your character is, Levar.

VoilaIntruder - 2009-09-02

The visor prosthetic he wore in the show took upwards of 14 hours of application time on the average shooting day, so between this and filming Reading Rainbow, he can be forgiven for being a little hazy on his character.

dododge - 2009-09-05

Based on episode clips and Troi's hair, this is clearly from the first season of TNG. According to various nerds Geordi was helmsman at that point and on the 1701-D the same station includes navigation. He didn't move to engineering until the first episode of season 2.

*Majel Roddenberry voice* NERD ALERT *star trek siren*

Saying that sticking on a plastic hairband took 14 hours when the most advanced FX proesthetic jobs tax a max of 4 has to be the most bizarre lie I've ever read on this site.
