And Sega still doesn't want to release this over here, i hope Kazuma beats them with a used 32x.

Camonk - 2009-09-08

Er... Is this one of those games you can import basically entirely in English?

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-08

The japanese edition doesn't have any english subs whatsoever. This franchise, while being in the vein of the good ol beat em up arcades of the past is heavy on story, and it happens to be a good one so far.

So, let's keep thinking of creative ways to torture Sega executives. I say we lock them inside a furry convention, full of Sonic fans cosplaying.

Camonk - 2009-09-08

Goddammit. I was hoping this was a Demon's Souls sorta deal, and I was about to get my awesome japanese game on.

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-08

Sega complaints that the game is a poor seller in the USA, and of course it is when you release it with almost no ads, and having most of the vg press saying is "GTA in Japan". Sega has learned nothing from the Saturn days, maybe Bernie Stolar still gives advice to them?

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-08

The poor sellers being Yakuza 1 and 2, which as far as i remember barely had any publicity. Valkyria Chronicles suffered the same "we have a great game but let's not tell anyone" fate. I guess all the marketing money goes to stuff like Let's Tap and the Sonic games.

RocketBlender - 2009-09-08

I always assumed the games didn't sell well (especially 2) because they were PS2 games stuck in the middle of the 'next gen' era.

RocketBlender - 2009-09-08

The game isn't exactly hard to play in japanese. I've been stumbeling through it with the help of this guide:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/file/950186/55807

I don't referance it unless I get completely lost and stuck, which has made things pretty funny sometimes. Kazuma once promised to help a depressed orphan, then wandered around the city for about 2 hours getting completely hammered, picking fights with strangers, and stashing weapons, all thanks to my complete lack of Japanese.

It's an easy play though, especially since 80% of the time the game highlights exactly where you need to go, and you'd be surprised how easy it is to figure out what's going on just from character's expressions and tone of voice. Every time I went back and read a chapter synopsis in that guide, I was surprised how close I was.

teethsalad - 2009-09-08

goddammit sega

revdrew - 2009-09-08

Atlus get off your lazy ass and pick this shit up will you. It's not like the PS3 has tons of quality software to keep with this right now.

Hooker - 2009-09-08

So this is just Manhunt?

revdrew - 2009-09-08

Maybe if you replaced horrific murders with getting drunk, gambling, fucking hostesses and saving orphans and puppies.

Aelric - 2009-09-09

The best part is that you are not exaggerating. I fucking LOVED the first game and am currently playing through the second one on emulation.

if you liked these than you'll dig The Yakuza Papers series, a Japanese Godfather epic that this borrows heavily from.

RocketBlender - 2009-09-09

Is that a movie series or game? I'll have to look it up. Also, where do you get a PS2 emulator? PS2 games have looked like crap on my PS3 ever since I got a non-standard TV.

Aelric - 2009-09-09

http://pcsx2.net/ is where I got mine. They have an extensive list of what games work and what don't. Get ready to do some research, though, as different games need very different settings and there are like a million settings.

Bear in mind, it's not just pop in and play. You'll have to figure out where to get your own PS2 BIOS and get all the plugins you need on your own. The forums there are a treasure trove of knowledge and are generally friendly. It took me a whole day to figure it all out, but now I'm in nostalgia heaven.

Aelric - 2009-09-09

Also, Yakuza papers are a 5 movie series from Japan in the 70's. Hollywood video in my town had them, so they shouldn't be too hard to find.

Chalkdust - 2009-09-09

Did he knock that guy out with a giant squeaky hammer?

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-09

:)

Emcee - 2009-09-09

I cannot rate this, for I can't watch it without getting extremely depressed.

zatojones - 2009-09-09

in Japan all gangsters first go to pro wrestling school

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-09

I remember seeing another heat action video where Kazuma beats a guy with a cellphone. Jebus, just release this here already Sega!

Emcee - 2009-09-22

THIS COULD BE COMING HERE. STAY TUNED TO YOUR GAME NEWS SHIT IF YOU HAVE THAT AT ALL.
