Caminante Nocturno - 2009-09-08
This guy likes hearing himself talk too much to worry about making sense.

What I love about guys like this is that they hate that feminism supposedly tells men how to act, then once they've established that they immediately begin telling men how to act.

If you're not a Christian, this is all gibberish.
I wonder if this also proves that Finn Joliette, or whatever that fat magician's name is, is not a boring douchebag.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-09-08 I wish he'd just keep his mouth shut like his partner, Kruller.

I think the feminisation of men has a lot less to do with the feminist movement and a lot more to do with advances in technology that allow us to be lazy and get away with it.

TheQuakeSoldier - 2009-09-08 First off, I said nothing about women being lazy. You said gender roles "no longer have a purpose". I agree, and my contention is that that is due to advances in technology (IE, there is less work to be "done" on all fronts than there used to be, giving people the ability to choose their roles more freely.) Look at any example of a "feminized male" and ask yourself if that person could have survived in pioneer times. It's technology and infrastructure that have enabled this newfound freedom, not the feminist movement.
|
William Burns - 2009-09-08 My issue was your regarding "laziness" as the antonym of "masculinity." I interpolated that in your view, a man's femininity was directly proportional to his laziness. If we're both talking about the drift towards gender neutrality, then I misunderstood you.

rawelkij - 2009-09-08 It's true that industrialization took a lot of women's jobs out of the home and into the factory, but it's also true that before industrialization, men did most of the physical work; farming, fighting, etc. Not to say that men are better at those things, or that those are better or more important jobs, but on average men are bigger and more muscular, simply because they have more testosterone. The fact that very few modern jobs require manual labor means that men have no inherent advantage over women as they did in physical work.
I think that's what QuakeSoldier and William Burns were getting at.
|
William Burns - 2009-09-08 I didn't say that men did most of the physical work in preindustrial society because that is not universally true. I think that a drift away from rural family life and away from religion has as much or more to do with changing gender roles than the types of labor women are doing. Before someone previously relegated to a domestic role can become self-sufficient, they must first recognize the possibility of doing so and live close to a source of revenue.
Of course, the guy in the video isn't self-sufficient either if he doesn't know how to cook, vaccum or change his kid's diapers. His wife obviously doesn't like him enough to iron his shirt, for instance.

Every time one of these kinds of Xtians talks, all I can hear is "we need to get back to a society where we can beat our pregnant, barefoot wives while they cook our dinner and mend our clothes."

HankFinch - 2009-09-08 I know, it's like they're finally making sense for once.
