Watched this the other night. Very good and mind-bending. I've started reading his book ATOM and am enjoying it a great deal. This kind of stuff gets me excited and a little terrified for the time in the future when we can manipulate matter on a quantum level with a greater understanding than we have now. Assuming our brains will even be able to think on that level.

fluffy - 2009-10-31

I think this actually raises more questions than it answers. Which is how science works, so yay!

phalsebob - 2009-10-31

This is worth watching. Find the time. The whole idea that the sum value of the energy of the universe is zero is new to me and pretty damn amazing. I'm going to have to look into it further.

oogaBooga - 2009-11-01

Well isn't it sort of like a giant equation? Two sides cancelling each other out?

Light side, dark side, duct tape, yada yada yada? I know all the brainiacs are cringing right now but I like my theories simple.

Syd Midnight - 2009-11-01

I didn't think the title of the video would be proven literally, but then he goes and does it. You could make an awesome movie out of this lecture.

glasseye - 2009-10-31

So awesome. Very much worth watching, several times.

godot - 2009-10-31

Now I know why I wake up feeling like a random quantum fluctuation, sometimes.

Lauritz Melchior - 2009-11-01

I had a pretty bad random quantum fluctuation last night.

It clogged my toilet.

"Most of the mass in a proton comes not from the quarks within a proton, but from the empty space between the quarks."

Shut up, physics! SHUT UP! JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Syd Midnight - 2009-11-01

Several years ago Krauss was being suggested as an heir to Carl Sagan as "guy who explains the universe to the public", but it was decided that his personality is not soothing enough. He's excitable and it's infectious.

Gojira1000 - 2009-11-01

That was well worth the hour.

Udderdude - 2009-11-01

Watch this, seriously.

Keefu - 2009-11-01

This is great stuff.

memedumpster - 2009-11-01

The information presented in this video is riveting, mind blowing, and absolutely vital to enjoying human existence. Five stars for every piece of scientific wonder presented.

Unfortunately it's presented by a douchebag who will take time every ten minutes or so to be an atheist pundit, complete with dopey grin as he pauses to sniff his own farts. Maybe in a few hundred years we can get a lecture on science again that doesn't come with anti-religious browbeating, but for now it seems to be all we can get.

To kick it old school without the churchly environment of this video, look for "Dark Matter, Dark Energy: The Dark Side of the Universe" lecture series with Professor Sean Carroll, which is 24 hours of this minus the preaching.

Keefu - 2009-11-02

o no he made fun of religion :(

James Woods - 2009-11-10

No, I agree with this. Maybe we'd see more believers turn into thinkers if we didn't make fun of them all of the time. This information is awe inspiring. More awe inspiring than most people can imagined God to be on their own.

Simian Pride - 2009-11-14

To be fair, this is from the 2009 Atheist Alliance International Convention.

This is the same lecture, only he's not preaching to the choir:

James Woods - 2009-11-14

Hmmm, context. It still seems childish though.

baleen - 2009-11-29

I have a hard time believing these people would ever feel it necessary to start a soup kitchen.

CharlesSmith - 2010-02-01

Yeah it's so childish for people to make jokes specifically tailored to what they know about the crowd they're addressing. Children pull that one constantly.

dancingshadow - 2010-08-22

Thanks memedumpster, I watched the sean carroll dvds and they are great.

nage - 2009-11-02

Thanks A LOT Pal. You awoke some curiosities I have toward the universe. Now I am going to have to go out in to the world and learn more.

Freeman Gordon - 2009-11-02

Large Hardon Collider

James Woods - 2009-11-14

squeeeel!

Dan Druff - 2010-01-02

Nothing is interesting.

kanyakumari - 2010-12-07

Nothing is better than a good steak.

Soda crackers are better than nothing.

Therefore, soda crackers are better than steak.
