This bomb was developed and tested BEFORE the US started sharing nuclear designs with the British (1957 vs 1958). The British demonstrating understanding of the Teller-Ulam design was what spurred us to share our smaller, more efficient bomb designs with them.
Yes, but when a Soviet scientist pointed out that the explosion of a 100 megaton nuclear weapon might blast some of the Earth's atmosphere into space they scaled the bomb back to 50 megatons for the test. Well, after they changed their soiled underwear that is.
"Who did I piss off to get this assignment?"
"We're all going to die, aren't we?"
"Right, I just cover my eyes, like that will be enough."
"I should have been a butcher or something."
"OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I CAN SEE THE BONES IN MY HAND PLEASE HELP I DON'T WANT TO DIE... OH my God. Whoa. I hope that doesn't have lasting effects."
"Hey, pretty cloud."
This is why I honestly can't get too scared about any of the potential end-of-world scenarios they throw around these days. Total nuclear war was just so much more horrible.
