I just watched this movie again the other night. I choose to interpret it as Mel Gibson just being himself, no acting involved.
I THOUGHT he looked familiar. At this point, I think if I ever saw Mel Gibson acting like a normal human person, I wouldn't have a clue who he was.

I have to say that this scene more than any other in the movie freaks me out whenever I watch it. Also: this was playing on our DVD player when I logged on to POEtv and found the clip here, not knowing it had been uploaded. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
