I read about this in the paper, Cormier was kind of a local hero to hockey fans, since he's from the area. I can only imagine they'll love him even more, now that he's shown he's a violent asshole.

UPDATE: Cormier has been suspended indefinitely, pending a final decision on the 25th. Mikael Tam is out of the hospital and can reportedly walk around and stuff.

Yeah, totally lying there. A lot of people don't know what hockey's really like, even today. For all we know the coach told him to go out there and "take care" of the guy. He probably didn't mean to almost break his neck and get an indefinite suspension, but still. When my old man used to play, his semi-unofficial position was team goon, and that sort of thing went on all the time.
